Pierce Golfer Medals at State

by Victoria Orona

Pierce High sent two girl golfers to North Platte on Monday, October 7.  Senior Samantha Svendsen placed 18th and junior Sydney Erickson placed 9th.

Pierce traveled to North Platte to compete in the rainy weather for golf. A two-day event turned into one because of the weather impeding on the golfer's ability to play. Even though the weather on the first day wasn’t sunny, Coach Melinda Stelling said, “It didn’t really affect our girls. They golfed pretty well under the conditions.” Senior Sammi Svendsen placed 18th with a score of 98. Junior Sydney Erickson placed 9th, making her one of the two girls in Pierce High history to medal at state, with a score of 91. When asked how she felt about not being able to play the second day and Sammi said, “It was disappointing that we didn't get to play the second day, it's not really how you want your senior year to end, but I still think the first day went well considering the conditions.”

Overall throughout the season Sydney and Sammi have been able to be in the top 10 of every meet. The team was able to come close to meeting quite a few of their goals and were pleased by how they performed throughout the season. While talking to Coach Stelling about what she is excited about for next year, her response was, ”I’m excited for Sydney to be coming back as a senior and to see the younger ones grow and continue to get better.”
