Pierce Hosts Wrestling Triangular

The Pierce wrestling team took tough losses to Schuyler and West Point-Beemer at their home triangular on Tuesday, January 31. Pierce first took on Schuyler and was defeated 9-67. Then Pierce took on West Point-Beemer and lost 34-42.
In the first dual against Schuyler, Jayden Sporleder was pinned by Kenny Castro at 106. At 113 and 120, Schuyler earned twelve points for their team because Pierce was open. Jeremiah Kruntorad, 126, was pinned by Denilson Martinez. At 132, Cody Yawn won by decision 12-5 over Miguel Roman. Brodey Peters lost by decision 1-6 against Mario Venzor at 138. At 145, Brett Tinker was pinned by Caden Yrkoski. Pierce was open at 152 and 160, giving twelve points up to Schuyler. Coltin Bauer took a fall to Caleb Novak at 170. Weighing in at 182, Ryder Fuchs pinned Walter Hernandez. Dylan Kuehler lost by major decision 0-10 against Michael Hernandez at 195. At 220 and 285, Pierce was open again and gave twelve more points to Schuyler which concluded the dual. There were two exhibition matches held. Zane Gleason was defeated by tech fall by Edgar Cruz at 138. At 145, Zane Gleason pinned Sergio Grado.
Starting things off for the second dual against West Point Beemer, Jeremiah Kruntorad pinned Logan Knobbe at 120. Jordan Sims was pinned by Chase Eisenhauer at 126. At 132, Cody Yawn won his 100th match because West Point-Beemer was open. Wrestling at 138, Brodey Peters won by major decision 18-7 over Jose Salazar. Zane Gleason was pinned by Riley Berg at 145. At 152, Brett Tinker was pinned by Dylan James. At 160, Pierce gave up six points to West Point Beemer. Wrestling at 170, Coltin Bauer was pinned by Ronny Petersen. At 182, Ryder Fuchs pinned Gustavo Villasenor. Dylan Kuehler pinned Gary Walker at 195. At 220 and 285, Pierce was open and gave up twelve points. At 106, Jayden Sporleder gained six points for the Bluejays because West Point-Beemer was open. This match concluded the dual.
Wrestling coach Tyler Legate said, "We wrestled and competed really well on Tuesday night. I am proud of the guys, and hopefully we can put our best on the mat the next few weeks, with districts around the corner." The wrestling team will next wrestle Friday, February 10, at districts in St. Paul.
Wrestlers Take 3rd in Pender Duals

On Friday, February 3, The Pierce High wrestling team placed 3rd out of six teams in the Pender duals.
In the dual against Oakland-Craig, Pierce lost 39-40. At 113, 152 and 285, Pender received eighteen points due to open weights for Pierce. At 160, 170, 195, and 220 Pierce received twenty-four points for Oakland-Craig’s opens. At 138, Brodey Peters won by decision over Jarron Metzler 10-6. At 145, Brett Tinker won by pin over Wyatt Uhing. At 182, Ryder Fuchs won by pin over Wade Metzler. At 106, Lucas Hilliard pinned Jayden Sporleder. At 120, Jeremiah Kruntorad lost by pin to Gavin Saxton. At 126, Dylan Swenson of Oakland-Craig w pinned Jordan Sims. At 132, Cody Yawn lost by decision to Jefferson McNeil 5-3. After all matches, the team scores were tied, and Oakland-Craig won the tiebreaker to defeat Pierce 40-39.
In round two, the dual Pierce defeated Niobrara/Verdigre 54-18. At 145, 160,170,182, 120, 126, 132 and 138 Pierce won forty-eight points due to open weights for Niobrara/Verdigre. At 152 Niobrara/Verdigre won six points due to an open for Pierce, and both teams were open at 113. At 195, Dylan Kuehler pinned Dakota Crosley. At 220, Jordan Shakespaere pinned Jacob Kerber of Pierce. At 106, Toby Ives pinned Jayden Sporleder of Pierce. The duel ended 54-18 in favor of Pierce.
In round three, Pierce beat Winnebago 54-24. At 106, 120, 132, 145,152, and 182, Pierce received thirty-six points due to opens for Winnebago. At 160 and 285, Winnebago received twelve points from Pierce’s open weight classes, and both teams were open at 113. At 126, Jeremy Bear pinned Jordan Sims of Pierce. At 138, Brodey Peters pinned Jamisen WolfLeader. At 170, Coltin Bauer pinned Robbie Lovejoy. At 195, Dylan Kuehler pinned Nick Painter. At 220, Prosper Gilpin pinned Jacob Kerber of Pierce.
In round four, Pender beat Pierce 41-18. At 160, 113 and 285, both teams were open. At 182, 132, and 138, Pierce received eighteen points from Pender’s open weights. At 170, Layne Heese pinned Coltin Bauer of Pierce. At 195, Juan Moreno of Pender won by decision against Dylan Kuehler 5-3. At 220, Pender’s Jesse Thompson pinned Jacob Kerber. At 106, Kaiden Mrsny pinned Pierce’s Jayden Sporleder. At 120, Bryson Bovee won by tech fall over Pierce’s Jeremiah Kruntorad 24-5. At 126, Korbin Hardenbrook pinned Jordan Sims of Pierce. At 145, Brady Oliver won by decision against Brodey Peters 10-3. At 152, Leland Bowder pinned Brett Tinker.
In round five, Pierce beat Ponca 48-22. At 113 and 126, both teams were open. At 170, 106, 120, 132, 152, and 160, Pierce won thirty-six points due to opens for Ponca. At 285, Ponca received six points with Pierce being open. At 182, Ryder Fuchs pinned Michael Hegge. At 195, Ponca’s Andrew Daly pinned Dylan Kuehler. At 220, Michael Logue won against Jacob Kerber by major decision 19-6. At 138, Brodey Peters pinned Cullen Cook. At 145, Colton Krusemark pinned Zayne Gleason of Pierce.
The wrestlers will compete next at districts in St. Paul beginning Friday, February 10.
Bluejays Wrestle in Mid-State Tourney

Pierce’s wrestling team traveled to Norfolk Catholic Saturday, February 4, to wrestle in Mid-States. The Bluejays had two conference champions and placed 6th out of nine with a total of 88 points.
Cody Yawn placed 1st at 132. In the quarterfinal, Yawn won by fall over Philip Schmitz (O`Neill). In the semifinal round, Yawn won by fall over Reece McFarland (Crofton). In the 1st place match Yawn won by decision over Jonah Heng (Norfolk Catholic) 6-3.
Ryder Fuchs also placed 1st at 182. In the quarterfinal round, he won by fall over Garrett Schafer (Wayne). In the semifinal round, Fuchs won by fall over Anson Hawthorne (Battle Creek). For the 1st place match Fuchs won by fall over Ethan Poppe (Crofton).
Brody Peters at 138 placed 3rd. For his first round, Peters won by fall over Morgan Koch (Hartington CC). In the quarterfinal, Peters won by fall over Buddy Walz (Battle Creek). In the semifinal, Peters lost by sudden victory to Arik Seymour (Norfolk Catholic). In the semifinals, Peters won by fall over Ty Groth (Boone Central). For the 3rd place match, Peters won by fall over Justin Brtek (Norfolk Catholic).
Placing 3rd at 170, Coltin Bauer lost by fall to Bryton Fowlkes (Boone Central) in his first match. In the consolation semifinal round, Bauer won by fall over Brandon Hopson (O`Neill). In the 3rd place match, Bauer won in sudden victory over Brendan Bachman (Norfolk Catholic).
Jayden Sporleder wrestled at 106. In the quarter final, Sporleder lost by fall to Will Grape (Boone Central). In round two, Sporleder lost by decision to Nathan Schmidt (Crofton) 5-2.
Wrestling at 120, Jeremiah Kruntorad lost by decision by Tyson Haddix (Boone Central). Kruntorad won by major decision over Trinity Mosel (O`Neill) 12-4 in round one. In the semifinals, Kruntorad lost by major decision to Cameron Muhs (Wayne) 13-4.
Jordan Sims, at 126, lost by fall to Damien Kersten (Battle Creek) in the quarterfinal. Sims also lost by fall to Alonso Franco (O`Neill).
At 138, Zane Gleason lost by fall to Arik Seymour (Norfolk Catholic). In round two, Gleason lost by fall to Justin Brtek (Norfolk Catholic).
Brett Tinker, at 145, in round one won by fall over Landon Pribnow (Boone Central). In his quarterfinal round, he won by decision over Levi Honeywell (Crofton) 7-5. In the semifinal round, Tinker lost by fall to Caden Moore (O`Neill). In the consolation semifinal round, Tinker lost by major decision to Ethan Dozler (Boone Central) 16-4.
Dylan Kuehler, at 195, lost by fall to Berto Vergara (Wayne) in round one. In his next match, Kuehler lost by fall to Kaleb Johnson (Crofton).
At 220, Jacob Kerber lost by fall over Jason Hahlbeck (O`Neill) in the quarterfinal. In his next match, Kerber lost by fall to Jared Hornback (Crofton).
Coach Tyler Legate said, "The guys have worked hard and done everything the coaches have asked them to do. This week, we will have a great week of practice to get us ready for districts in St. Paul."
The Bluejay wrestlers will compete at districts beginning Friday, February 10, at St. Paul.
