by Rose Graham

FCCLA members attended National Cluster Meeting in Denver, Colorado, from November 4 through the 6. There were 14 members from the chapter attending.

The theme of Cluster was “Unlimited Possibilities.” The group traveled through the night Thursday and arrived in Denver early Friday morning. The day started off with some sight-seeing. The group went to the Denver Zoo in the morning. In the afternoon, the chapter participated in the Step UP leadership Service Project.

Before the general session, there was a Life Smarts Knowledge Bowl and skill events. The skills event competitors were Sydney Erickson, Chance White, and Junior Aguilar.  Sydney Erickson received 1st in her skills event which was junior division interviewing skills. The chapter had two knowledge bowl teams. Team one consisted of Junior Aguilar, Chance White, Sydney Slater, Katie Christian, and Rachel Fenton. The second team consisted of members Samantha Hartman, Elizabeth Harris, Rose Graham, Mackenzie Richmond, and Caitlyn Crist.

That evening, the group attended the opening general session, where the National Council was introduced and Eddie Slowikowski was the keynote speaker. Eddie Slowikowski spoke about discovering your purpose, igniting your passion, and doing the work to become the best version of yourself.

Saturday the chapter attended their final day at the conference. They attended morning sessions and watched the final rounds of the Life Smarts Knowledge Bowl competitions. The conclusion of the conference was attending the general closing session. The general session  included another keynote speaker, Cara Filler, and awards for the skills events.

“I enjoyed the competitive events and watching the Pierce members compete and learn through these competitions,” said chapter advisor Cheryl Timm. “As expected, the speakers and activities were insightful and entertaining.”
