Varsity Speech Team Wins BC Invite

Varsity Speech Team Wins BC Invite

Traveling to Battle Creek, the Pierce varsity and JV speech teams competed among 15 schools on Saturday, February 20. The varsity team took home 1st place, and the JV team placed 4th.

In the varsity division, the OID of Junior Aguilar, Emily Simmons and Shianna Oestreich took home 1st place. Aguilar also placed 1st in Persuasive Speaking and Extemporaneous Speaking. Simmons received 1st place in Informative Speaking, and Oestreich placed 2nd in Persuasive Speaking. Aguilar, Simmons, and Oestreich also placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively in individual points scored out of all participants of the entire meet. In Duet Acting, Janae Arens and Macie Timm took home 2nd place, and Bryce Bierman and Derek Ross received 3rd. Also, Chance White placed 4th in Humorous Prose, and Jordyn Bullock placed 6th in Poetry.

For the JV team, Dylan Delka took home a gold medal in Entertainment Speaking, and Jessica DeGroff placed 6th. Jacob Kuester placed 2nd in Humorous Prose. Arens received 4th place in Poetry, and Kiley Bierman placed 5th in Extemporaneous Speaking. In Duet Acting, Sydney Slater and Rose Graham placed 4th.

The speech team will be competing in the Mid-State Conference meet held at Battle Creek on Saturday, February 27.
