Brahmer Nominated Best High School Coach

Brahmer Nominated Best High School Coach
by PHS Journalism

Pierce High head football coach Mark Brahmer has been nominated for the honor of best high school football coach in the country.
“It is because of the hard work and dedication of all our current and former players, along with my assistant coaches that this type of recognition is possible,” said Brahmer. “I am hopeful that everyone who has contributed to Pierce football and supported us over the years can take pride in this recognition. I have definitely been blessed to have been surrounded with great young men, tremendous coaches, and loyal fans and parents.”
USA Today High School Sports staff members have chosen eight head football coaches in each state to be nominated for this award based on extensive conversations with local media and other state and school officials with high school football expertise. Other Nebraska coaches nominated were Chuck McGinnis of Crete High School, Fred Petito of Millard North, Jeff Bellar of Norfolk Catholic, Jeff Gross of McCook, Mark Wortman of Elkhorn, Mike Speirs of Howells-Dodge, and Tim Aylward of Pius X.
USA Today will be asking fans to choose the recipient of the honor. Three rounds of voting will take place. The state round, in which the top coach from each individual state will be selected, began on Monday, September 30, and ends on Tuesday, October 8. From there, a regional round will begin on Wednesday, October 9, and end on Friday, October 18. Eight regional winners will be selected, and those will advance to the national round, which will begin Monday, October 21, and end Tuesday, October 29. The coach with the highest number of votes in the final round will be the winner.
A $2,000 cash prize for the winning coach’s athletic department will be awarded, and second through fifth places also receive cash prizes for their athletic departments:  second ($1,000), third ($500), fourth ($250), and fifth ($100). All eight regional finalists will receive banners for their schools.
