Leach, Venteicher Among Nebraska Career Education Students Recognized
Ninety-four Nebraska Career Education students were recognized on November 22 for national leadership and skills competition awards they had received earlier this year. Governor Dave Heineman and Nebraska Education Commissioner Roger Breed recognized students during a reception, the Commissioner’s Recognition, at the Nebraska State Capitol Rotunda. The ceremony is held to honor those members of a Nebraska Career Education Student Organization who competed and were recognized at the national level of competition within their organizations. The students had received first, second or third place national awards or were finalists.
The students are members of Nebraska Career Education student leadership organizations DECA, FBLA, FCCLA, FFA, HOSA, PBL and SkillsUSA.
Elyssa Leach of Pierce High School was among three individuals and five groups to receive FCCLA Awards. Leach was the Nebraska State Champion in the Recycle and Redesign STAR project and won a gold medal at Nationals in Chicago, the highest medal placing. She was in the top three in the nation. FCCLA, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work and societal issues through family and consumer science education.
Adam Venteicher was among twelve individuals and four groups to receive FFA Awards. Adam was specifically being honored for being a star finalist and eventually the FFA's National Star Farmer for 2010. FFA is an organization of agricultural education students preparing for careers in agriculture, food and natural resources.
