Bahnfleth, Halsey, and Jones take Fifth at State
Facing many talented competitors, the trio of Micah Bahnfleth, Zach Halsey, and Jacob Jones experienced much success at the University of Nebraska – Kearney at the class B state speech competition. On Thursday, March 18, Bahnfleth, Halsey, and Jones took away fifth place with their Oral Interpretation of Drama (OID) selection. The trio, a sophomore and two freshmen, competed in two rounds Thursday morning and competed in the finals round at two o’clock against the top six OIDs.
Bahnfleth, Halsey, and Jones’ OID is the interpretation of two narrators describing how classic fairy tales, such as Rapunzel and Snow White, could intermingle. However, as the fairy tales come together, many events go wrong.
The guys were able to see their three judges’ comments on their way home from Kearney. Judges rank performances on the basis of fifty points to determine placing of the performances. The guys were able to see how many points they had earned on the judges’ ballots. One judge in the final round commented that the boys were “humorous and confident”; another said they had good characterization and great energy and enthusiasm”; the third said they had great facial expressions and gestures for their characters.”
Coach Mrs. Crys Bauermeister said, “I am very proud of all of the competitors for their accomplishments at state as well as throughout the season.”
Sophomore Zach Halsey said, “All three of us did very well, and I am very proud of our success. We did a great job, and it was a great experience to be at state and see all of the other OIDs.”
