Bluejays Get Another Win

The Bluejay varsity football team played the Ord Chanticleers on Friday, September 7. Bluejays defeated the Chanticleers on Pierce field with a score of 58-42.

In the first quarter, the Jays took a commanding lead as Carson Oestreich scored on a four-yard touchdown with an extra point by Devan Roth. Oestreich also had another four-yard touchdown run before Ord could respond offensively. Ord then scored on the Jays, but Oestreich finished the quarter off with a run of 37 yards for a touchdown, leaving the quarter ending with 19-7.

During the second quarter, the Jays maintained their lead in a back-and-forth scoring battle with Ord as Dalton Freeman ran a six-yard touchdown followed by a successful two-point conversion. The Chanticleers answered with a touchdown, but Freeman then sprinted in 77-yard touchdown run, and Freeman’s pass to Roth was good for the two-point conversion. Ord then scored another touchdown, and the extra point was good. Freeman then pulled out another touchdown with the extra point good by Roth, leaving the score going into halftime at 42-28.

In the second half, Ord started things off a touchdown, and the extra point for them was good. Ryder Fuchs then had a six yard sack for a safety to take back the momentum. Oestreich then scored a 16-yard touchdown for the Jays, and Freeman’s pass to Gavin Larson made the two-point conversion good. Devan Roth ran in another Bluejay touchdown. The Chanticleers finished the quarter off with a three-yard touchdown but were unable to close the gap, leaving the score at 58-42 at the end of the game.

The Jays’ lead rusher was Freeman with 186 yards. Oestreich led in rushing touchdowns with four. Fuchs was the leader in number of tackles with a whopping 25. Fuchs and Jakob Meier both got one sack for the Bluejays. Larson made one catch, Oestreich had two catches, and Roth had two catches.

Coach Mark Brahmer said, “We were quite pleased with the boys’ effort in a hard-fought victory over a very good Ord football team.” Although they won the game, Brahmer said they have a few more things to fix before the next game.

The Bluejays’ next game is on Friday, September 14, against Scotus at home for homecoming.


Reserve Bluejays Defeat Clovers

The reserve football team played Columbus Scotus at home on Tuesday, September 4, and won with a final score of 27-6.

The Bluejay scorers of the game where Jeremiah Kruntorad, Logan Moeller, Garret Meier,  David Dale. Chaden Roth kicked three successful extra points.

Coach Grant Doerr said, “The boys played well, and it's always nice to win the first game.”

The next JV game is Monday, September 24, at Crofton.
