8th Graders Attend Tech. Day at Northeast

by Montana Ruppert

All of the 8th grade class attended the Northeast Community College Tech. Day in Norfolk on Wednesday, November 1.

Every year, the 8th grade class attends this event at the college. They learn about how technology is being used in a wide variety of careers in today’s working environment. Throughout the morning, the 8th graders attended ten sessions. Each session demonstrated how technology impacts that particular career. An example would be in agriculture where computers are used on combines to show yields on different parts of the field and in planting where GPS systems drive the tractor. Other technologies that students were shown and experienced were drafting at Nucor, precision machining for manufacturing, and also technology used by paramedics.

School Counselor, Mrs. Mary Birch, said, “The 8th graders came back having seen in person a wide range of how different technological advances are impacting today's workforce. The purpose was to expose young kids to careers and how various technology impact careers today.”

Eighth grader Kelton Anderson said, “There were lots of opportunities for learning.”
