Pierce High Observes Red Ribbon Week
by Angelica Volquardsen
Pierce High participated in activities for Red Ribbon Week from October 23-27. Red Ribbon Week is designed to promote positive, healthy choices.
There were different activities for students and staff each day of the week. Monday, students discussed the key to their future and wrote their “Key to Success” down on a paper key, which was then posted around the school. Tuesday, students were given informations about staying away from alcohol and other drugs. Wednesday, they discussed building strong relationships and friendships and did a “Drop for Your Bucket” activity where they wrote uplifting notes to other students around the school. Thursday, students read information about making healthy choices in their diets and were invited to bring a healthy snack to enjoy. Friday, they got information on how to handle stress wisely. Throughout the week, different groups of students also took turns watching an informational video on the effects of marijuana. Additionally, study hall groups were invited to participate in a door decorating contest.
School Counselor Mary Birch said, “Red Ribbon Week is a time to increase students’ awareness of how our choices can impact ourselves and others. We always hope that the fun activities and material presented makes a difference for our students as they navigate the world of choices big and small every day.”
