Alert Magazine Scholarship – Deadline:  None – publish twice a year.
$500 scholarship awarded with each issue of Alert Magazine that is published.
Write an essay about a personal encounter you or someone you know has had with drug and/or alcohol abuse.  Discuss how it was dealt with, what was learned from the experience, and what was right or wrong (in your opinion) about the way the incident or problem was handled.

Golf Fore the Troops – Deadline:  August 14
A parent must have served in the Iraq War or the Afghanistan War. Letter outlining specific goals and financial need. One letter of recommendation.

NOMINATION TO U.S. SERVICE ACADEMIES – for top students interested in attending one of the service academies-West Point, The Naval Academy, The Air Force Academy-full tuition, books, and housing plus a monthly living allowance.  Deadline:  November  (allow 2 months to complete the entire application process).

Central Community College Parts, Sales and Management Scholarship  - Deadline:  August
Several @ $500; must enroll in this program at the Hastings campus; GPA of 3.0.

UNK Interfraternity Council Incoming Student ScholarshipDeadline:  August
1 @ 250, must be male, must attend UNK, must demonstrate leadership, commitment to academics and show involvement in extracurricular activities.  Need not join a fraternity to receive this scholarship. 


American Soybean Association SOY ScholarshipDeadline:  September 15-November 15
1 @ $5,000, high school senior pursuing a degree in agriculture, GPA minimum of 3.0, child or grandchild of a current ASA member, ACT or SAT score, 500 word essay.

Hearst Foundation/U.S. Senate Youth Scholarship – Eligible seniors will receive a preliminary application in September
1 (from the state of Nebraska) @ $2,000 plus an expense paid trip to Washington D.C., must hold an office in a student organization, must complete a brief test on American and Nebraskan government.  Deadline: third week of October.  A September date for taking the test will be announced at school to eligible seniors.

Aspirations in Computing - National Center for Women & Information Technology (NCWIT) sponsors the annual Aspirations in Computing Award competition for high school women involved in and/or interested in technology and computing.  You do not necessarily have to have achievements in technology to apply, you just have to have the passion – hence the “aspirations” name.   To access the information, please search “Aspirations in Computing NCWIT” and click on the results to go to the correct web page.  For more information, please see Mrs. Birch.

Siemens Competition in Math, Science and Technology - National WinnerDeadline:  September 22 at 11:59 p.m.

Coca-Cola Scholarship Program- 50 @ $20,000, and 200 @ $10,000, based on character, achievement, leadership, extra curricular activities, part-time employment, motivation to serve and succeed, GPA of 3.5 or better.  Apply on-line by accessing website.  Deadline:  October 31

Heartland Latino Scholarship – several @ $1,000; must be of Latino/Hispanic heritage pursuing a post-secondary education in the state of Nebraska.  Deadline:  October 1

Nebraska Softball Foundation Scholarship- 1 @ $1,000, must be or be the child of a registered baseball, softball, or football official, GPA 3.0, Transcript, activities resume, 3 letters of recommendation.  Deadline:  October 15.

Horatio Alger Scholarship- 100 @ $2,500 and 100 @ $4,000, based on integrity, achievement, leadership, service, overcoming personal obstacles, perseverance, hard work and motivation to succeed. Three essays on the preceding topics, one letter of reference, certification form, and application required.    Www.horatioalger.org/scholarships to apply. Deadline October

Prudential Spirit of Community Awards- 50 @ $1,000, and 10 @ $5,000, must be engaged in exemplary service to your community, essays on impact, inspiration, effort and personal growth from your volunteer service to your community or school.  Deadline:  October

Vada M. Kinman and Colonel Barney Oldfield Scholarship- 1 @ $2000. High School Juniors. Attend high school and college in Nebraska. Essay on a veteran and why that veteran should be honored, 1000 word s or less. Deadline: October 1

Wendy’s High School Heisman Award – must have a GPA of 3.0, demonstrate scholarship, athleticism, citizenship, must participate in at least one sport in high school. Winners receive a free round trip ticket to New York City to appear on ESPN.  Apply at www.wendysheisman.com Deadline: October

Elk's National Foundation "Most Valuable Student" Scholarships- 2 @ $60,000, 2 @ $40,000,  2 @ $20,000, 2 @ $16,000, 2 @ $12,000, 4 @ $10,000, 4 @ $8,000, 482 @ $4,000, GPA of 3.5, high school transcript, excellent leadership, ACT of 25 or better, 350 word statement of goals, 1 to 3 letters of recommendation, community service, and financial need.  All entries from Pierce must be turned into the Norfolk Elk’s Lodge #653. This is a great scholarship that requires a lot of work, so start on it soon! Deadline:  November

Hagan Scholarship Foundation – 1 @ up to $5,000 per semester, GPA 3.5 or higher, ACT Score 23 or higher, FAFSA EFC must be less than $7,500. Deadline: November

Nomination to U.S. Service Academies - for top students attaining one of our other Service Academics, full tuition, books, and housing plus a living allowance. Deadline:  November

P.E.O. STAR Scholarship – 1 @ $2,500, GPA 3.5, for a young women who demonstrates outstanding scholarship, talent, accomplishment and recognition.  See school counselor for application Deadline: November.

Jeffrey S. Raikes Honors Program in Computer Science and Management at UNL - leading educational program for high ability students, ACT 30, top 5% of class, full room and board, book scholarship, all applicants are encouraged to apply for tuition scholarships at UNL, program applications at http:///raikes.unl.edu Deadline:  November.

KHOP Kearney Health Opportunities Program – a cooperative program between UNK and the University of Nebraska Medical Center, the program is designed to recruit and educate students who are committed to returning to rural Nebraska to practice healthcare, the participating programs this year include: medicine, radiography, Clinical Laboratory Science, and Nursing, is selected for the program applicants receive full tuition at UNK and guaranteed admission at UNMC to their designated health program.  Deadline: November 15, 2015

WSC and Chadron State College RHOP Scholarships- several full tuition scholarships in medicine and dentistry. RHOP is a cooperative program between WSC and Chadron State College and UNMC designed for rural Nebraska students interested in practicing in small communities throughout Nebraska.  Selected students will be automatically admitted or guaranteed admission into a professional health care program at UNMC in the following areas:

  • Wayne State College - dental hygiene, dentistry, medicine, and pharmacy. www.wsc.edu/schools/nss/pscm/rhop
  • Chadron State College - the same fields as WSC with the addition of physicians assistant, radiography, physical therapy, and medical technology. www.csc.edu/mathsci/healthprofessions
  • Full tuition scholarship for three years to the Dentistry and Medicine (physician) programs.
  • GPA of 3.5, ACT score 24 or higher, must submit application, essay, and 3 letters of recommendation, service and leadership activities.  Deadlines:  WSC and Peru State College:  NOVEMBER 15th; Chadron State College Medicine NOVEMBER 15th and all others DECEMBER 1.

ROTC Scholarships- for upper level students (top 20% of your class) who are willing to serve as officers for a period of time in the armed forces upon graduating from college in exchange for full and other benefits.  There is a unique ROTC Scholarship for any student studying nursing.  ROTC is not offered at every college in Nebraska.  Deadline: November

Samsung American Legion Scholarship -  varies, 10 @ $20,000 & 88 @ $1,000; High school juniors who participate in and complete either an American Legion Boys State or American Legion Auxiliary Girls State Program and be a direct descendant, i.e. child, grandchild, great grandchild, etc. or a legally adopted child, of a U.S. wartime veteran who served on active duty during one or more of the periods of war. Deadline: Normally the application is submitted to program staff upon arrival at your respective Boys/Girls State program.  Additional scholarships are available through his website, including:  American Legion Baseball, Eagle Scout Award, and the National High School Oratorical ContestDeadlines: all others, additional scholarships listed immediately above check individual scholarships

Scholarship America – various different scholarships, programs managed by Scholarship America® are open to students in the general public. Deadline: varies according to the scholarship.

UNK Omaha World Herald/Kearney Hub Scholarships and Honors Program - several with room waiver, full tuition, fees, and books, ACT of 30 or above, top 10% of high school class, leadership and activities, written essay.  (It is possible to be a part of UNK's Honor's Program without receiving a scholarship.  Requirements are ACT of 27, top 25%, written essay.) Deadline:  November 15

UNL Honors Program Scholarship - several @ a book stipend for 4 years, 3.5 GPA, ACT 25 or higher. Deadline:  November & March



Air Force ROTC Scholarships- several full tuition, book fees, living stipend of $250-$400 per month, academic components for the average recipient is as follows:  ACT 27, GPA 3.59, top 9% of class, 25% will major in electrical engineering or meteorology, 50% will major in other engineering or scientific/technical fields, the remaining 25% will major in other fields.  Apply online.  Deadline:  December

American Quarter Horse Foundation Scholarship – several scholarships from $500-$25,000. Applicants must be a current member of the American Quarter Horse Association and/or American Quarter Horse Youth Association. Individual criteria and requirements vary for the different scholarships. Deadline: December 1

AXA Achievement Scholarships – 52 @ $10,000 (one in each state); GPA 3.5, ACT score, available to graduating seniors who are ambitious and motivated, as evidenced by outstanding achievement in school, community, or work activities, and be recommended by an unrelated adult who can attest to the student’s achievement..  Deadline:  December

Burger King Scholars Program  - several @ $1,000, must excel academically and work part time (15 hours a week), open to Burger King employees and children of Burger King employees involved in community service, show financial need. Applications are available online. Deadline: December

DAR Good Citizens Scholarship – 1 @ $250, 1 (national) $3,000, must demonstrate dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism, high school activities, future plans, service efforts, high school transcript, 2 letters of recommendation, an essay which must be written under the direct supervision of a guidance counselor. Deadline: December and February

Governor's Opportunity Award - ½ tuition at Wayne, Chadron or Peru State, score between 21 and 24 on the ACT, essay, an applicant may apply for a scholarship to ONLY ONE state college.  Deadline:  December 1.

Kaplan University Scholarships- scholarship available for students attending Kaplan University. See website for details.

Martha and Don Romeo – Nebraska Association of Fair Managers Scholarship - 2 @ $500, one to a male and one to a female student, must have exhibited 4-H projects at a county fair in the past four years, 2.5 GPA, support and involvement in school and community, goal-oriented.  To get the application, do an internet search of “Martha and Don Romeo Nebraska Association of Fair Managers Scholarship” – that will lead you to a PDF form for the scholarship.  Deadline: December 1

Nebraska Elk's Vocational Scholarship  -6 @ varied amounts to $1,000, must attend a vocational, technical 1 or 2 year college in Nebraska, 200 word essay on accomplishments, activities, and goals, 2 letters of recommendation, Deadline:  December

Peru State College RHOP – Peru State holds three seats in the School of Pharmacy and four seats in the School of Nursing.  Deadline:  December 1

SAE Scholarship – several @ varying amounts, GPA of 3.5 or better, ACT 21 and up, must study engineering at a four year program or “related majors like chemistry, physics, biology or computer science may also apply. Apply at www.sae.org/students/sngschlr.htm or go to the SAE web site, click on SAE Foundation and do a search for scholarships, a list will then come up Deadlines may vary but start as early as :  December 1.

Student Challenge Earthwatch Fellowship Program- seeks students with demonstrated talent in the arts and humanities, and is interested in the sciences and scientific research.  Students work with scientists, following the daily schedules and research plans for each site.  Visit website for more information.  Deadline:  December

United States JCI Senate Foundation Scholarship- several @ $1,000, must enroll full time in college, reference letters, 100 to 300 word personal statement.  Deadline:  December

Wayne State College Merit Scholarshipsseveral @ varying amounts; can include full tuition, room and board; plus $500 stipend; 3.5 GPA, ACT, 2 letters of recommendation, essay, activities, awards, involvement in school and community.  These include:  John G. Neihardt, Omaha World Herald, Presidential, Dean’s, and the Academic Achievement, Leadership Award, and Multicultural Awards. Deadline:  December 1



Acacia Leadership Scholarship - 1 @ $1,000 and 2 @ $500.  Must attend UNL, must be a male freshman student, GPA 3.5, outstanding in academics, extra curricular activities, community involvement, essay, 2 letters of recommendation.  Deadline:  January 31

America’s Homecoming Queen – Community Service and Educational scholarship.  Must be Homecoming Queen, or if the queen isn’t attending it can be someone in the court.  The student will go through a selection process in order to be eligible for scholarships.  Deadline for Nebraska is available on the website.

Chadron State College Academic Scholarships - several at varying amounts, depending on the student's GPA and ACT scores.  Deadline: January

Creighton University  - has a priority Academic Scholarships.  Deadline:  January

Creighton University Muchemore Forensics (speech & debate) Scholarship - 1 @ full tuition, participation in high school speech team, GPA of 3.0, must be willing to compete on Creighton's speech team as a college student.  Deadline:  January

Creighton University Christina Hixson Scholarship- 15 @ $4,500 x 3 years.  ACT 23, 250 word essay, must attend Creighton University, must major in business, preference given to students whose parents aren't college graduates.  Deadline:  January

Eagle Scout of the Year Scholarship – 1 @ $10,000, 3 @ $2,500, must be an active member of a Boy Scout Troop, Varsity Scout Team, or Venturing Crew, received the Eagle Scout Award, be an active member of his religious institution and must have received the appropriate Boy Scout religious emblem, demonstrated practical citizenship in church, school, Scouting and community, have reached his 15th birthday and be enrolled in high school, 2 letters of recommendation. Deadline: January

EducationQuest Financial Aid Program Scholarship – 3 @ $500.  To be eligible:  must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident; be a junior or senior attending a Nebraska high school; MUST attend the financial aid program held at PHS; and complete the online scholarship registration form.

Gates Millennium Scholarship- $1,000 are given each year. Pell Grant Eligible, must be:  African American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian Pacific or Hispanic American; be a citizen of the U.S., GPA of 3.3, demonstrated leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other activities.  Deadline:  January

Hastings College Academic Merit Awards-, GPA 3.75, ACT of 26.  Deadline:  January  

John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Essay Contest - 1 @ $10,000; 1 @ $1,000; 5@$500 plus an expense paid trip to Boston.  Submit an original, less than 1,000 word, essay on the meaning of political courage (standing up for your beliefs) as described in John F. Kennedy’s book, Profiles in Courage.  Deadline:  January 6, 2016.

McKelvey Foundation Entrepreneurial Scholarships – several @ up to $40,000; must own and operate your own business while in high school; have 1 paid employee; graduation from high school. Apply online.  Deadline:  January

Mensa Foundation Scholarship - awards of varying amounts based entirely on student essay. Deadline: Applications open September 15th and close on January 15th.

National Multiple Sclerosis Society Scholarship Program – will range from $1,000-$3,000 per recipient. High School senior who have MS or who have a parent with MS, plan to attend post-secondary school for the first time and enroll in an undergraduate course of study at an accredited 2 or 4 year college or vocational-technical school. Deadline: October 1- January 15

National Wildlife Turke Federation JAKES Scholarship  - 1 @ $750 from local Norfolk chapter, 1 @ $1,000 at Nebraska State level, 1 @ $10,000, must participate in hunting sports, be involved in school and community activities, leadership essay on student's dedication to conservation, 3 letters of recommendation, GPA of 3.0.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska DECA Scholarships - Several scholarships of varying types available. Deadline: January

Nebraska Elk's Association J.C. Ferguson Golf Scholarship - 1 @ $500, must participate in high school golf and plan to participate in college golf, ACT score, GPA of 3.0, 3 letters of recommendation.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska Elk's Past Exalted Ruler's Scholarship - 6 (3 boys, 3 girls) 2 @ $700, 2 @ $500, 2 @ $400, GPA 3.0, ACT score, activities and community involvement, 3 letters of recommendation, financial need, may attend a 2 year, 4 year college or any vocational, technical college.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska Machinery Co. Scholarship Sponsorship Program - several @ full tuition, fees, books, and $2,500 tool allowance, must complete the 2 year program at Central Community College in Hastings and major in Diesel Technology Program, must work for Nebraska Machinery (which are found in Norfolk, Lincoln, Doniphan, Scottsbluff, Omaha & North Platte) for minimum of 2 years after graduation.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska Office Professional Association Scholarship – 1 @ $1,000; must be pursuing an office related career, essay 3 letters of recommendation, completed 2 high school business courses, high school transcript.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska State College System Board of Trustees Scholarships- several at full tuition at WSC, Chadron State, or Peru State, may only apply to only one of these colleges for this scholarship, ACT of 25, GPA 3.0, must attend college full-time the following fall.  Deadline:  January

Nebraska Women’s Amateur Golf Association - 1 @ $1,000, Deadline: January 31

NSCS Davis-Chambers Freshman Scholarship - several @$2,000, must attend Chadron, Peru, or WSC, GPA 3.0, must show financial need, and submit the FAFSA, one letter of recommendation, activities, honors and leadership may also be considered.  Deadline: January.

Norma Ross Walter Scholarship - 1 @ $1,000 for 4 years, GPA of 3.0, open to female graduates of Nebraska high schools who plan to major in English (journalism not included), based on intellectual promise, creativity and character, 3 letters of recommendation.  Deadline:  January

People to People Student Ambassador Change My World Forever Scholarship - 250 word essay on how you have displayed leadership and how the People to People program will build your leadership skills in the future and “change your world-forever”.  Based on financial need, community involvement, scholastic involvement and essay.  Deadline: January

Peter Kiewit/Walter Scott UNO Scholarships - ACT score 30 or higher and GPA 3.5 or higher. Must attend the UNO's Peter Kiewit Institute of Information Science, Technology and Engineering.   Deadline:  January

Phi Delta Kappa Scholarship for Future Educators- 30 scholarships to prospective teachers who have a connection to Phi Delta Kappa by having a family member or a teacher who is a Phi Delta Kappa Deadline:  January

Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC)/Scholarship Program- several @ $1,000. Emphasis on financial need, personal statement, and 1 letter of recommendation from a school staff member, copy of your and your parent’s IRS tax form. Must enroll in a two or four year program, funds are paid directly to the college.  Call the Ronald McDonald House in Sioux City at (712) 255-4084 for an application or go to the website.  Deadline:  January 21 (can begin applying Oct. 1)

U.S. Navy NROTC ScholarshipFour-year full tuition which can cover up to $180,000 in educational expenses plus the student will be entitled to a monthly stipend beginning at $250 a month. Requirements include ACT scores of 21 Math & 22 English and sound moral character. Applicants should begin filling out the application early!

United Methodist Dollars for Scholars Provides $1,000 dollar matching scholarships to United Methodist Students who have received $1,000 matching scholarship from their local United Methodist Church or congregation to help them attend a United Methodist related a United Methodist College, University or Seminary. Scholarship available on-line January 1-March 1.

United Methodist Student Scholarship Opportunities – The United Methodist Church offers financial assistance to United Methodist students pursing higher education. Several scholarship and loan programs are available. Various Deadlines

In order to apply for the Nebraska Methodist College scholarships below, you must meet at least one of the following criteria: GPA of 3.5 or above, ACT of 25 or above, Top 10% rank in class.

  • Becker Presidential Scholarship – $8,000 for 4 yrs.; must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Wishmeier Dean’s Scholarship – $5,000 for 4 yrs.; must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Excellence in Allied Health Scholarship - $5,000 for 2 yrs.; associate degree program in allied health; must maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Achievement Scholarship - $1,000 for one year; awarded to alternates for the Presidential Scholarship.
  • Horizon - $3,000 for one year; GPA of 2.5, ACT of 20 or above.
  • Dove Scholarship - $4,000 (2 year or 4 year award); financial need; may be first-generation students.
  • Kathryn Montgomery ACE Scholarship - $6,000 (one year award); must demonstrate financial

Many @ varying amounts.  Must be completed online.  Go to “Quick Links” menu; select “Financial Aid/Scholarships.” Select the “On-line Scholarship Application” link on the left-hand side of the screen and follow the directions.  That single application will be used to consider students for all NECC scholarships except the Ak-Sar-Ben scholarship which requires a separate application.  Please request that your guidance counselor send your high school transcript to the NECC financial aid office.  Deadline:  February



Antonette Willa Skupa Turner Scholarship – 1 @ $500, first year college student planning to pursue an English or History degree, letter of recommendation from English or History teacher, 1,500 word essay. Deadline: February

Associated General Contractors of America - Nebraska Chapter (AGC) – Deadline:  February 15, 2017
This is a $1,000 scholarship that is awarded to an applicant who plans to enroll in one of the many specific construction related programs at a two year technical institute in Nebraska.  Click on link for application and more information.

Beta Sigma Psi National Lutheran Fraternityawards range form $500 - $2,000. Lutheran men enrolled full time, 2.5 GPA, active Spiritual involvement on campus. Two letters of recommendation, one page narrative and an interview. Deadline: February

Bill Lewis Scholarship – 2 @ $250. Dependents of individuals who are currently registered officials with the NSAA or have been a registered official within the prior 20 years. Deadline: February

Briar Cliff Richard Doyle Leadership Scholarship- several @ $1,000 for 4 years, leadership roles in school, church, or community that involve meaningful contribution to the effectiveness of that organization, 2 letters of recommendation, do not need to be present at Scholarship Day in February to apply.  Deadline:  February

Bruce Lee Foundation- 1 @ $1,000. Evaluating applicants include extra-curricular activities/community service/work experience, full potential and knowledge of Bruce Lee. Deadline: February

Buckle Excellence Scholarship - UNK – 1 @ $3,000 for two years.  Must be an incoming freshmen and major in CSIT (Computer Science and Information Technology); must be in top 20% of graduating class and have a minimum of 26 on the ACT.  Deadline:  February

Buick Achievers Scholarship Program – 1,000 @ $2,000 for 4 years and 100 @ up to $25,000 for four years. Major in a course of study that focuses on Science, Technology, Engineering or Math. Demonstrate an interest in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries.  Deadline:  February 28.

Carhart Lumber Co. Scholarship – Deadline:  February 1st
3 - $250 scholarships available.  Scholarships are available to those high school seniors who are planning to enroll in a Building Construction related program. 
NOTE:  Application must be signed by a manager of any Carhart Lumber Co. location.  Both the application with manager’s signature and letter of recommendation must be received by the February 1st deadline.   Please see Mrs. Birch for an application.

College of Hair Design in Lincoln - several between $500 to $1,000, must enroll next year in one of this college’s cosmetology programs, for more information on these scholarships, call 1-800-798-HAIR.

Dakota Wesleyan University Scholarships - several awards are given up to full tuition,

Dekalb Ag Youth Scholarship - 10 @ $2,500 must pursue an ag-related degree, strong leadership skills, community involvement, apply online. Deadline:  February

The American Legion Auxiliary – Ruby Lorraine Paul ScholarshipDeadline:  March 1
This is awarded to a daughter, son, granddaughter, grandson, great-granddaughter or great-grandson of an American Legion or to an American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion member who has held Nebraska membership for 2 years.
Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university for the current year and a Nebraska resident for the previous 3 years.

Americorp Education Award- $4,725 college scholarship for 1,700 hours of work for the Americorps National Service in a period of nine months, while working in these U.S. Government sponsored program you will receive in addition to the scholarship award a living allowance, room and board, health care, and will learn skills from construction to tutoring to environmental conservation, first aid among others.  This is an excellent way to learn and earn even through you would need to defer college for one year.  It is something like the Peace Corps except that all the work is done in the USA.  A good way to gain experience and earn college money.  Deadline:  March

ASQ Phil Shanline Scholarship – 1@ $1,000 – based solely on responses to application essay questions, and 2 @ $1,000 based on a combination of essay responses and financial need, GPA 2.0 or above.  Deadline:  Jan. 1-March 15

ButlerEdge Diesel Technician Program – Must study diesel ag technology at Mitchell Tech Institute in South Dakota.  Program involves 2 years of study and a simultaneous paid internship worth about $30,000 over two years.  Students must apply to Mitchell Tech (https://www.mitchelltech.edu/) and fill out a job application for Butler Ag.  Students are guaranteed a full-time job with Butler Ag upon completing the program.  The minimum pay guarantee is $62,000.  Must complete an online mechanical ability test and set up an interview with Butler Ag.

Insuring Success Scholarship ContestDeadline:  April 14th.
$500 scholarship awarded to 2 applicants selected by the Insuring Success committee.  Scholarship funds will be awarded to the student’s institution upon evidence of enrollment in classes.  This includes student identification number and correct address of school’s Bursar’s Office. 
1.  Applicant must be a Nebraska resident, graduating from high school the 2016-17 academic year.
2.  Applicant must submit an essay (one page minimum/2 pages maximum).  Essay Question:  What are your 1 year, 5 year, and 10 year goals and what is your plan for achieving them?  (Be specific and explain why these goals are important to you.)

James M. Pink Bandana Beat Breast Cancer ScholarshipDeadline:  April 30th
This is a 4-year renewable scholarship for $1,000 per year to the institution of choice. 
1.  Senior at a Nebraska High School and planning to enroll in college for the fall.
2.  The student, a dependent sibling of their parents, or a parent having battled breast cancer in the past 10 years.
3.  Essay

President's Students Service Challenge Scholarship -  1 @ $1,000, no minimum GPA, must contribute 100 hours of volunteer/learning service to the school and community in a twelve month period.  Deadline:  April

Steve F. Wemhoff Memorial Scholarship – 2 @ $500.  Must be a graduating senior with at least a ‘B’ average.  Essay showing why you should be considered for the scholarship and showing academic ability, leadership, activities, financial need, personal and career goals.  Also attach a letter from the school counselor stating that the applicant has at least a ‘B’ average.  Deadline:  April

Student View Scholarship Program – 1 @ $4,000; 2 @ $1,000 and 8 @ $500.  No minimum SAT/ACT score, no essay, no application forms or fees – click on the above link and complete a 15-20 minute application survey about colleges in your area.  Scholarship awarded by random drawing.  Deadline:  April

Air Force ROTC Scholarships  - Applications open June 1, 2016 for the school year 2017-2018.  The earlier you apply the greater your chance of receiving a scholarship.  These scholarships do not count against a student’s financial aid package as they are treated the same as a Veteran benefit.  All Air Force ROTC scholarships will cover all tuition and fees for a student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha for 4 years for a non-technical degree and 5 years for a technical degree.  Please click on the link to find out more information.

DeVry Institute Scholarships - DeVry is a technology, computer, and business college.  The scholarship is for students that will be attending  DeVry.

Distinguished Young WomenDeadline:  June 1
A unique scholarship program where applicants are evaluated in 5 different categories:  Scholastics (25%), Interview (25%), Talent (20%), Aerobic Fitness (15%), and Self-Expression (15%).  Nebraska’s program awards cash scholarships to the top candidate in each of the 5 categories along with 3 overall scholarships.  The highest scoring individual is named Distinguished Young Woman of Nebraska and advances to the Distinguished Young Woman of America program the following June.  Several tuition scholarships are available for simply participating.
Must be a high school senior girl (participate the summer between your junior and senior year).
Must be available for the entire 2 ½ days during the program weekend.
