Pride of the Bluejays March Towards Superior
By Payton Ebmeier
The last note echoed throughout the entire dome as the band finished their show, Soundtrack to a Life.
Pride of the Bluejays marching band marched to Vermillion, South Dakota, to partake in the Quad State Marching band competition on October 17.
“The energy that our band performed in (the) dome generally had a little more edge than in Yankton. We worked hard to improve some of the formations and visuals and the improvement was apparent in their performance. Musically, we made some improvements dynamically but didn't quite play it to the level that I think we can,” Michael Sindt, band director, commented.
The Bluejays show consists of “Bridge over Troubled Water” and “You Can Call Me Al,” named Paul Simon Opener, “Your Song” by Elton John, and “My Life/Only the Good Die Young” by Billy Joel. This show managed to score the band a superior in all categories, even color guard.
“I'm sad that my time in marching band is coming to an end, but it makes me feel better knowing I will still have more experience in band throughout the semesters,” Aubrie Zimmerman, this year's drum major, replied.
Make sure to catch their last and final show in Kearney on October 24, at 5:30 p.m.
