Smooth Operators Demonstrate Skills All the Way to Third Place

By Tiffany Chaney

Pierce High robotics had one team compete at the Great Plains Signature Event: team 71414A Smooth Operators, made up of Makayla Shefl, Andrew Lienemann, Brandon Thomsen, Sawyer Konert, and Jennalee McRoberts.

“The team record for the day did not indicate how close and how competitive they were. The team learned so much from this event and will be prepared for all facets in the next competition.  The team had a solid skills score and will work to maintain their position in the top five,” head coach Treva Dostal stated.

After this tournament, the team is now in third place in skills in the state of Nebraska with a score of 76.

“We did best in skills at this tournament. We are now third in the state with a score of 76. Although we didn't do very well in the actual tournament, we know where we need to improve, and we have many ideas for our V2 rebuild.” Shefl, a senior from 71414A Smooth Operators, stated.

The team showed great sportsmanship during the signature event, and they had their goals in mind for the year.

“The team goals for the year always revolve around building the most competitive robot with the potential to win matches and qualify for the state tournament,” Dostal stated.

Overall, the team had great accomplishments and will be ready for the next competition November 7 at Brownell Talbot.
