Bluejays Run at UNK
The cross country team packed up in the van and traveled to the UNK invite at the Kearney Country Club in Kearney on Monday, September 29.
To begin with, the lone girl runner for the Bluejays was Quinn Streff, who placed 224th with a finishing time of 32:25.9.
“I thought the meet was fun, and the course was more difficult than I expected,” Streff states after running the course for the first time in her career.
Now on the boys' side of things, Kendall Shada was the first Bluejay runner to cross the finish line, placing 25th with a time of 18:01.4. Next was Blaine Anson, coming in 99th place with a time of 19:32.8. Maxwell Weber finished in 22:04.4, placing 244th. Emmett Hervert was the fourth runner to finish in 332nd place with a time of 23:33.1. Kohen Gordon placed 381st with a time of 26:11.3. Lastly, for the Bluejay boys, it was William Blank with a time of 27:11.5, placing 389th. The boys placed 27th as a team.
“The overall team performance wasn’t quite what I was hoping it would be, based on how we had been running up to this point,” head coach Gary Shada stated. “The course was soft due to the rain they had been getting in Kearney lately, and that contributed to times being slower than normal, but that didn’t totally account for the overall performance. As a team, we need to learn from this meet and move on, and prepare ourselves for what is the heart of our season.”
The cross country team will be back in action on Thursday, October 8, competing in the Mid-State conference meet at the Lakeview golf course in Crofton.
