Student Council Rekindles the Bonfire to Celebrate Homecoming Week

School spirit will be high on October 5 as seniors–for the first time in years–light a bonfire to kick off homecoming week.
The bonfire will be lit following the JV football game in the gravel parking lot, and the entire community is invited to celebrate. Glowsticks, activities, and lots of cheers will mark the rekindling of this old tradition.
“The kids are putting in a lot of work, and I think as long as we get kids to come, I think it'd be a nice thing to keep going. Because again, I think you get these four years in high school to enjoy these moments, and so we try to have a bunch of fun things happening for the kids during this week and have those memories,” Deb Koehlmoos, student council sponsor, says.
The tradition of a bonfire began in the 90s, but somewhere along the line it was extinguished. This year, one of the main goals of student council has been to create a spirit-filled culture–in school and the community. Bringing back the bonfire is a great opportunity for this to occur.
“It was a really fun tradition that we are hoping to reignite and bring back to our school. We wanted to give current students a chance to experience it, make new memories, and bring everyone together,” Adrienne Riggert, senior and head of the spirit committee for student council, says.
Homecoming week is always a blast, but the bonfire adds something a little bit special. Help us celebrate by coming to the bonfire on October 5, cheering loudly, and showing off your school spirit.
