Pierce Bluejays Volleyball Win at Holdrege Tourney
By Brynley Koch

The Bluejays volleyball team competed against Holdrege, Lincoln Lutheran High School, and Amherst High School on Saturday, Sept 26, at the Holdrege volleyball tournament.

In the first game of the day against the Holdrege Dusters, Pierce won in two sets, 25-

9 and 25-21.

“Winning the tournament is great for our power points, but more than that, it was a great boost of confidence for our team,” senior defensive specialist Josie Painter said. “My favorite part of the team is who I get to play with. I truly enjoy all of my teammates, and that makes playing with them so much fun. What stood out the most was how clean we were playing and our ability to bounce back when we didn't get the point. Our serving definitely helped us win, but we were also just playing really well together and having fun.”

In the second game for the Bluejays, they won again in two sets, 25-18 and 25-22, against the Lincoln Lutheran Warriors.

To end the day, Pierce went up against Amherst High School and won triumphantly in two sets, 25-9, 25-17, to go 2-0.

“We played to our standard. We didn't let our mistakes affect the rest of our game. It showed us that we can compete with the other top teams in C1,” senior outside hitter Nora Herian said. “We don't usually play these teams during the regular season, so being able to go out to Holdrege and win really boosts our confidence. Our defense flew around throughout the whole day. Getting good first touches really allows us to terminate faster on offense. Our serve was also very good.”

The Bluejays will play next when they travel to Ponca for a triangular with Ponca and Dakota Valley on Thursday, October 1.

Pierce High Stops Cedar Catholic
By Lydia Cone

Pierce High volleyball rolls over Cedar in a conference matchup on Tuesday night.

The Bluejays fought hard in the first set and came out with a set win, 25-23, and then settled in in the second and third sets, winning them 25-17 and 25-19.

“We’re always happy to get a conference win. We did a lot of good things offensively, and we’ll work hard to improve in other areas,” head coach Zach Weber stated.

Senior outside hitter Nora Herian led the team with 15 kills, and Kyndal Werner and Lydia Cone followed closely behind with 10 each. Kayton Werner tallied four kills, while Adrienne Riggert and Alayna Herian both ended with three each.

Leading the team in digs were N. Herian and Ky. Werner with nine each, followed by Ka. Werner, Riggert, and Kenzi Nygren with five each. Josie Painter tallied four digs on the night also.

N. Herian led the team with three blocks, Cone tallied two, and Ka. Werner ended with one. Ka. Werner led the team in ace serves with four, and Painter, Ky. Werner, N. Herian, Riggert, and Kendyl Olson had one each.

“In the first set we really struggled with our serve receive, and so in the second and third set we really focused on that,” junior outside hitter Ky. Werner said. “We got Adrienne closer to the net, and that just helped us be in system more.

The Bluejays will take on the Ponca Indians and the Dakota Valley Panthers on Thursday night at a triangular in Ponca.
