Golf Dominates in Cedar Tournament
By Payton Ebmeier

Ten girls golf teams traveled to Hartington Cedar Catholic to compete in a golf tournament on September 21. There was a first place medal given out to a Bluejay, as well as many other medals.

Brooke Podany secured first place, shooting a 94. Third was taken by Camassia White with a score of 102. Ninth and tenth place were given to Jaelyn Jensen and Addison Frye who both shot at 114. Brailey Jensen shot a 120 and collected 13th place. Finally, Teigan Warneke followed right behind with a score of 121, placing 14th.

This gold medal finish was a first for Podany.

“It was pretty exciting because my teammates were there to cheer me on,” Podany, a junior, said.

Even though they faced mist and rain throughout the tournament, the girls still managed to place first overall with a combined score of 424.

“It feels good, and you want to let the girls celebrate the win and enjoy it, but then, today is a new day, and it's time to get back to work and get even better,” coach Jason Freudenburg said when asked about the first-place tournament win.

Golf travels to West Point to compete in the Mid-State tournament hosted by Guardian Angels Central Catholic on October 1.

The Bluejays Drive Their Way to Victory
By Eleanor Bauermeister

Walking through the grass, different terrains, making great shots, and overcoming the difficult shots is what the golf team loves to do. Through the trees, hills, and fantastic shots at Hartington, the Pierce High golf team won the triangular match against Pierce, Hartington Cedar Catholic, and Wayne on Thursday, September 17. The team shot a total of 209, which earned the team the win.

Starting strong on the varsity side, Camassia White led the team, taking first place in the triangular with a score of 49. Following White was Brailey Jensen, placing second, and Brooke Podany, placing third, both shooting a 50. Finishing were Addison Frye, who shot a 60, and Jaelyn Jensen shooting a 61.

“I think we could have done better, but we did okay,” White said.

On the junior varsity side, Alyvia Marks led the team by shooting a 59. Not far behind was Teigan Warneke, who shot a 60, and Callan Vogeler, who shot a 73.

“They’ve done a really good job of being able to handle adversity really well. We talk about that all the time, not letting one bad shot turn into multiple bad shots,” head coach Jason Freudenburg said when asked about what the team has improved on from the beginning of the season to now.

The golfers will travel to Hartington on September 21 for the Hartington Cedar Catholic tournament. Be sure to catch the team swinging their way across the course.
