Community Invited to Powderpuff Games

This year, Pierce High welcomes the community to come at no cost and watch students play powderpuff–a fun mixed-up sport where girls play flag football and boys play volleyball for free.
Both games will be held at 7 p.m., with girls on Monday, September 28, on the football field and boys on Friday, October 2, in the gym. Typically, the games have been held in the afternoon of an early out or on a weekend, but student council, who sponsors the events, wanted to mix it up this year and let the community in on the fun.
“I have enjoyed powderpuff mostly because of the use of eye black, but I also enjoy getting to play flag football and being good at it,” Aislyn Moeller, a junior, said.
There are 33 girls and 27 boys signed up for powderpuff, and both will be split into teams based on grade level: freshmen and juniors against sophomores and seniors.
Coaches for the girls' flag football game this year include seniors Gavin Lubisher, Kendall Shada, Lawson Zierke, and Maddox Ronspies. Lubisher and Shada will coach the seniors and sophomores, and Zierke and Ronspies will coach the juniors and freshmen. Sophomores Burkley Collison and Brody Scholting will be the refs, and juniors Kolten Wragge and Ethan Claussen will be announcing.
For the boys’ volleyball game, seniors Nora Herian and Adrienne Riggert will coach the seniors and sophomores, while seniors Mya Froehlich and Kenzi Nygren will coach juniors and freshmen. Senior Josie Painter will be the ref, and juniors Meredith Krienert and Natalie Endorf will run the scoreboard.
“I am very excited to coach the girls. Gavin and I are going to be a dynamic duo. Although I haven’t played football since 8th grade, I’m gonna give it my all to bring a powderpuff championship to the senior and sophomore class,” Shada said.
Even though these athletes have no idea what they are doing, these games get competitive and are highly amusing to watch, so be sure to show up and cheer loudly.
