Jays Defeat the Pioneers

The Jays took on the Fort Calhoun Pioneers on Friday, September 4, for their first home game and came away with a victory, 21-12.
Some stars of the show who helped lead the Jays to a 21-12 victory were sophomore quarterback Brody Scholting, who had one touchdown and threw for 145 yards; junior running back Konnar Jones, who had 25 carries for 103 yards and two touchdowns.
“It was good getting to go out there and play a tough game with the guys and come out on top. Just grateful that we get the opportunity to come in next week and keep getting better,” Jones said.
Sophomore tight end Burkley Collison had three receptions for 67 yards.
In the first quarter, the Jays allowed the Pioneers to score six points. In the second quarter, the Jays scored two touchdowns, making the score 14-6. The third quarter was much like the first, in which the Jays allowed another touchdown to be scored, followed in the fourth quarter by a touchdown and a PAT made by senior kicker Tate Wales.
“I think the team did a great job working together, the game was closer than expected, but we got the job done,” head coach Tyler Legate said about setting a good starting pace with a two-game win streak.
