Pierce Volleyball’s Tournament Run

Pierce woke up bright and early to head to the Scotus Tournament, going head-to-head with Bishop Neumann, Norfolk Catholic, and David City on September 5.
Pierce first played Bishop Neumann. The first set ended in Pierce losing 25-16, Pierce battled back the second set, pushing Bishop Neumann to 25-22 before Pierce ultimately falling 2-0, dropping the Bluejays to 2-1 on the season.
“We really focused on cleaning up our side of the net and controlling the things we can control like our servers,” junior Kyndal Werner said.
Next was Norfolk Catholic, Pierce winning the first set 25-12, in the second set Pierce dominating the Knights again, winning 25-15. Pierce took the excellent win against Norfolk Catholic 2-0.
“Reconnecting with our setter on our fence and getting things going again,” sophomore Kayton Werner said
In the final game, Pierce went against David City. In the first set Pierce won 25-16, giving the Scouts a push. Pierce took the overall win 25-20 over David City.
“Our hitters were connecting with Adrienne (the setter) and we were getting good block touches,” Ky. Werner said.
The Bluejays finished fifth place in the tournament, leaving the day with a combination of challenges and improvements.
“Things aren't always gonna go as planned and (we) just have to do the next best thing,” Ka. Werner said.
Pierce will take these games and learn from it for their next opportunity on the court.
Bluejays Bring Out the Brooms

The gym was packed with fans from both Pierce and Norfolk Catholic, full of energy and ready for a matchup between rivals who never fail to play a great game and keep everyone on the edge of their seats.
On September 3, the Pierce High volleyball team faced off against Norfolk Catholic and ended up sweeping them in three sets. The set scores were 25-20 in the first set, 25-20 in the second set, and 25-23 in the third set.
Offensively, leading the team in kills was Nora Herian with 19, as well as Kyndal Werner with 10, and Kayton Werner with eight. Kenzi Nygren led the team with two ace serves. Mya Froehlich, Herian, Adrienne Riggert, and Ka. Werner all followed with one ace serve. Ky. Werner had two solo blocks with Herian following, having one.
On the defensive side, Josie Painter led the team having 15 digs. Following was Herian with eight, and Nygren with six.
“It felt so good, like just pure elation,” sophomore Lydia Cone said while discussing what it was like winning in three sets. “Just because you know we lost to them last year in this game in a five set heartbreaker. I guess it felt really good to get them this time.”
