Pierce Volleyball Sweeps Stanton for their First Win

Starting the season strong, the volleyball team dominated Stanton on the Mustangs’ home court, earning a clean sweep on Thursday, August 27.
The Bluejays came out strong in the first set, winning 25-20. The second set proved to be a challenge, but the girls pulled through, ending the set 28-26, and the team ended strong, winning 25-13 in the final set.
“Serving is what I think down the stretch did a really good job for us,” head coach Zach Weber, discussing the second set, says. “Not necessarily driving them out of system, but we did a great job gapping their top hitters in each rotation.”
Leading the team in kills was senior Nora Herian with 19, followed by junior Kyndal Werner with 12, sophomore Kayton Werner with eight, sophomore Lydia Cone with five, senior Adrienne Riggert with two, and senior Grace Suckstorf with one.
“I was definitely a little nervous going into the game…But we had some really good practices leading up to the game, so I was confident in the team,” Herian, a captain, says. She goes on to explain their success, saying, “I think we played well under pressure, especially in the second set when we were trailing for most of the time.”
Ky. Werner, Ka. Werner and Cone each had one solo block, with Cone also having two block assists.
Both N. Herian and Riggert had eight digs for the night, followed by seniors Kenzi Nygren and Josie Painter, who each had five. Senior Mya Froehlich and Ka. Werner dug three balls. Ky. Werner dug two, and Suckstorf, junior Aislyn Moeller, and freshman Alayna Herian had one dig.
The Bluejay volleyball team has had a great start to their season, and next week will get to show off their skills on their home court. Be sure to come and support the girls for their rivalry matchup against Norfolk Catholic on Thursday, September 3.
