Things That Trip Triggers

We all have things that trip our triggers, but what really causes this to happen?

Triggers operate through neurological, psychological, and physiological mechanisms where sensory input instantly activates brain regions like the amygdala, bypassing conscious thought. This triggers a fight-or-flight response, releasing neurotransmitters like glutamate, dopamine, or adrenaline, resulting in intense emotional, physical, or behavioral reactions.

Triggers come in all different shapes and sizes and are unique to every person. Sounds are a big trigger for many people. Some cannot stand the sound of people chewing or even yelling. Another common one is behavioral. For example, feeling ignored, talked down to, and interrupted are triggers. Stressful situations are also known for setting someone off like getting stuck in traffic or in a messy environment.

We all have one thing that trips our triggers, and maybe we have some in common. This is something we all can relate to, no matter what you believe in.
