Show your Creativity and be Rewarded for it – State Journalism
By Charlotte Enk
Two of the Bluejays, Alanna McKeown and Tiffany Chaney, made it to the NSAA state journalism competition on April 27.
Everybody in journalism can submit their projects and in hopes of earning a chance at attending state to get an award. So did Alanna McKeown, who competed in advertising in class B. McKeown got fifth place.
“I was very shocked when I found out I made it to state, but I am very glad I did,” McKeown said.
Pierce congratulates her on this great achievement in her senior year. McKeown did different advertisements during this year, and the one she submitted for state journalism was made a week before.
“I’m especially happy when students can see all the efforts they put in finally pay off,” Crys Bauermeister, journalism sponsor, said.
Bauermeister is encouraging all students, and is supporting every student to show their talent.
Tiffany Chaney received a unified medal for newswriting. Chaney wrote a story about the parent teacher conferences at the end of March 2025. Writing stories is something that she likes, but she never thought that she would get an award with it.
“I was kinda surprised, because I didn’t even realize that Mrs. Bauermeister submitted my story, and it was not my best story; I’m happy that I got an award,” Chaney said.
Pierce is proud that many students are blessed with creativity and are brave enough to show it to more people.
