Teens News Consumption

By: Rylee Altwine

When the idea of watching or reading about news comes into teens' heads, it just doesn’t seem to grab their attention. Teens don’t find it enjoyable to watch the news and think it's boring. But watching the news is a great way to keep up with the world and everything that is happening. Even watching local news is good for kids of all ages. The news informs us of so much information. But some teens really do enjoy watching the news, while others couldn't care less about it. Let’s see what a few students in Pierce High School have to say about the news.

“I don’t hate watching the news, but it’s not something I ever really pick to watch,” senior Mikenzie Lawrence said.

I don’t turn the news on for me, but if it's on the TV, I’ll sit and watch it. I enjoy when the news covers politics because I then understand more about it,” senior Elizabeth Furstenau said.

“I only watch the news on TikTok, but otherwise, I don’t enjoy watching it,” sophomore Jaylin Jensen said.

“I only watch the news when it's already on, but I like watching it when it's on. I think it is good to be informed about what is happening in the world,” senior Kylie Dvorak said.

The news is definitely not the first thing these students would choose to turn on the TV. But they don’t seem to hate it. Watching the news is very informative when it comes to a lot of things. All teens should find one thing about the news that they find enjoyable, because when it comes down to it, we all can learn something by watching the news.
