Little Dancers Make Big Steps at Youth Dance Camp
By Mikenzie Lawrence
The high school dance team has brought back the youth dance camp. On Friday, January 16, the 79 students signed up for the youth dance camp performed at halftime of the boys basketball game against Cedar Catholic.
The high school dancers went to the elementary at about 3:30 to start learning their dances. After about two hours, elementary students were picked up by their parents to go home and prepare for their performance.
Kindergarten through sixth grade was divided into three groups, and taught their dances by different members of the dance team. Each group then learned a different dance. Finally all the students came back together to learn their grand finale dance.
“I’m most excited for the dances to come together and to see the parents' reaction, and the girls are excited to work with the kids,” head coach Allison Blank stated about the halftime show.
Senior dance team member, Ann Reeker, is hopeful that bringing back the youth dance camp will inspire more youth to want to dance, and restore the Pierce High School dance team.
