Bluejay Boys Wrestling Competes at Northwest Dual Invitational

Saturday, January 17, the Bluejay boys wrestling team traveled to Grand Island Northwest for a wrestling dual; and in this tournament, Pierce competed against Central City, Chadron, Hastings, Grand Island Northwest, Omaha Skutt Catholic, Wahoo, and York, and the Bluejays came away with second place, finishing 4-1.

In the match one dual against Wahoo, Pierce defeated Wahoo with a dominant win of  54-18. 

At 106 was a double forfeit by both teams.

At 113, Andrik Sorrells of Pierce won his match against Bentley Oppelt of Wahoo with a pin. 

At weight 120, Kolten Wragge won by forfeit because of an open weight class. 

In the 126 class, Draydin Gossman pinned Grayson Styskal of Wahoo. 

At 132, Gavin Sutton beat Keegan Holan by fall. 

For 138, Tiger Bartek beat Karsen Wragge in a close match, winning 4-3. 

At 144, Zane Wesely beat Baiden Neuhalfen in a major decision, 10-0. 

At 150, Cole DeBoer won by forfeit. 

At 157, Brenden Bolling pinned William Hart of Wahoo in the first period. 

At weight class 165, Kaiden Ronnfeldt pinned Braydon Fittro of Wahoo. 

At 175, Burkley Collison won by forfeit. 

For 190, Jayse Styskal of Wahoo beat Charlie Ottis by a tech fall, 16-1. 

At 215, Christian Nordby pinned Parker Lienemann. 

Finishing off at 285 was Boston Kreuger pinning Daniel Oehm of Wahoo.

 

For Pierce's second match, they dualed Central City and defeated them 55-24. 

Starting off at 113, Sorrells pinned Bow Brandenburg. 

At weight 120 was Ko. Wragge won with a tech fall of 17-2 over Braiden Varley of Central City. At 126, Gossman won off forfeit. 

For 132, Holan won, pinning Jacob Zimmerman of Central City. 

At 138, Quin Jensen beat Blaine Anson by fall. 

For 144, Neuhalfen won off forfeit. 

At 150, DeBoer beat Joseph Supik of Central City off of a pin. 

At 157, Bolling won off forfeit. 

At 165, Parker Zikmund of Central City beat Ronnfeldt. 

At 175, Collison beat Bryan Redmond of Central City off of a tech fall, 17-2. 

At 190, Parker Santin of Central City beat Ottis by fall. 

At 215 was Nordby who beat Colbyn Peter in a 7-0 decision. 

Finishing off at 285 was Boston Kreuger, winning by forfeit. 

Pierce gave up the win to Ace Schweitzer at 106.

 

In Pierce's third match, they dualed York and won in a closer matchup, 38-28. 

Starting off at 120, Ko. Wragge won off of a forfeit. 

For 126, Gossman pinned Kade Gieck of York. 

At 132, Greysen Light beat Keegan Holan by decision, 7-3. 

For 138, Aiden Kadavy of York beat Ka. Wragge by a major decision 15-5.

At 144, Harley Winterrowd of York beat Neuhalfen by fall. 

For 150, Ty Erickson won a close match against DeBoer by an 8-7 decision. 

At 157, Bolling beat Devin Nuttelman 4-1 in overtime. 

At 165, Ronnfeldt pinned Brayden Wegrzyn of York. 

At 175, Max Erickson won by fall against Collison. 

For 190, Zayden Londene of York beat out Ottis by fall. 

At 215, Nordby pinned James Samson late in the third period. 

Boston Krueger (285) pinned Christopher Bennett.

The 106 weight class was a double forfeit, and finishing off the third match at 113 was Sorrells, who beat Lane Perdue of York on a tech fall, 18-3.

 

In the fourth match, Pierce slid past Grand Island Northwest 42-27. 

Beginning this dual was Gossman (126), who pinned Angel Martinez. 

Next, at 132 was Jaxon Houser of Northwest defeating Holan by major decision 13-4. 

At 138, Ka. Wragge pinned Kyle Steburg. 

Next at 144, Neuhalfen won by forfeit. 

Then at 150, Kadyn Friesen defeated DeBoer by fall. 

For 157, Bolling defeated Madden Middleton of Northwest in an 8-1 decision. 

At 165, Jaxson Rhoads of Northwest defeated Ronnfeldt in a 23-5 tech fall. 

For 175, Collison defeated Riley Vieth in a close match, 2-1. 

At 190, Kolton Kerr of Northwest defeated Ottis by fall. 

Nordby (215) pinned Brant Packer. 

In the 285 match, Krueger defeated Ian Cross by a decision of 4-1.

Pierce was again open at 106.

Sorrells (113) beat Aden Ternus of Northwest with a high score of 17-11. 

Finally at 120 was Ko. Wragge getting a pin against Jaxon Christensen. 

 

Finishing off the day for Pierce, they had to dual a tough rival in Skutt Catholic, where Skutt defeated the Bluejays 58-15. 

Starting off at 132, Kepha Orsi won by fall over Gossman. 

At 138, Crew Carlson also won by fall, beating Ka. Wragge. 

For 144, Luke Melrose defeated Neuhalfen by fall. 

At 150, Ben Ziola beat DeBoer with a 19-4 tech fall. 

At 157, Bolling defeated Issac Christo by a 4-2 decision. 

At 165, Tyler Harrill defeated Ronnfeldt in an 18-1 tech fall. 

For 175, Nikolas Rotella beat Collison also in an 18-1 tech fall. 

At 190, Riley Johnson won by fall over Ottis. 

At 215, Nordby pinned Aidan Belsky in 26 seconds. 

At 285 was Krueger pinning Tyler Mertes.  

Pierce was open again at 106, giving the win by forfeit to Colton Strange. 

At 113, Levi Devetter defeated Sorrells by tech fall, 19-3. 

At 120 was Gavin Ourada beating Ko. Wragge in a close match, 4-0. 

To end the day, Connor Cooper won a 20-2 tech fall over Holan (126). 

Pierce will be headed to the Class C boys state wrestling dual tournament on February 7 in Kearney at the Buffalo County Fairgrounds.


Pierce Boys Wrestling Battles in Crofton

The Pierce boys competed in two duals on January 15, competing against South Dakota’s No. four ranked team, Bon Homme/Avon, and Crofton-Bloomfield. 

Many tough matches went down, and the dual against Bon Homme/Avon came down to the last few matches. Pierce ended up dropping the dual 41-34, but they then defeated Crofton-Bloomfield 49-19.

At 113, William Korth lost by fall to Asher Hellman of Bon Homme. Korth then received a bye from Crofton-Bloomfield, giving the team six points.

Then at 120, Class C No. four Kolten Wragge wrestled South Dakota No. four Summyt Larson and defeated him in a 15-4 major decision. In Wragge's second match, he pinned Anthony Sonnichson in 41 seconds, scoring the team 10 total points.

Keegan Holan (126) lost to Michael Branaugh of Bon Homme/Avon in a 10-0 major decision. In Holan’s match against Crofton-Bloomfield, he dropped his match to Reece Schmidt in a 9-0 major decision.

At 132, Karsen Wragge wrestled South Dakota No. five Ryvr Larson of Bon Homme/Avon and lost by fall in the second period.

Also at 132, Class C No. four Draydin Gossman wrestled Carter Kuhlman of Crofton-Bloomfield, pinning him in an explosive 14 seconds. In the match against Bon Homme, Gossman wrestled at 138 and pinned Hank Faehnrich, scoring 12 total points.

Wrestling at 138, Baiden Neuhalfen wrestled Tomik Duffy of Crofton-Bloomfield, dropping the match in a 16-7 major decision, and then at 144 Neuhalfen wrestled Devonne Sessler of Bon Homme/Avon, dropping that match by technical fall, 17-1.

At 144, Brody Kesting lost to Cash Cullington of Crofton-Bloomfield in a 17-1 tech fall.

In the 150 class, Cole DeBoer pinned Calvin Caba of Bon Homme/Avon. DeBoer also pinned Alex Ramponi of Crofton-Bloomfield, scoring 12 total points.

At 157, Class C No. one Brenden Bolling received a forfeit, and then Bolling pinned Weston Bierma of Bon Homme/Avon, scoring 12 total points.

Kaiden Ronnfeldt, wrestling at 165, received a forfeit, then he lost to Luke Guthmiller by technical fall, 17-2, scoring six total points.

At 175, Burkley Collison pinned Brock Jeanoutot of Crofton-Bloomfield. Collison then pinned Caden Zomer of Bon Homme/Avon, scoring 12 total points.

In the 190 class, Kyle Kuehler lost by fall to Isaiah Crownover of Bon Homme/Avon.

At 215, Christian Nordby beat Tyson Sanger of Crofton-Bloomfield in his match, finishing 3-2. Nordby then lost to Caleb Cuka of Bon Homme/Avon 6-0, scoring the team three total points.

Boston Krueger (285) showed up ready to wrestle and pinned his first opponent, Jackson Runyon of Bon Homme/Avon, in 53 seconds. In Krueger's second match, he defeated Owen Kuchar of Crofton-Bloomfield by major decision, 16-6, scoring a total of 10 points.

Pierce was open at 106. 

Pierce boys will be at the Norfolk YMCA fieldhouse on Thursday, January 22, for a triangular and Saturday, January 24, for the Mid-State conference tournament.
