The Time and Effort That Goes Into Planning a Dance is Much More Than We Expect

By Skyler Stern

As winter royalty comes to an end, it may not have seemed like much of a hard-planned event for those who ignore what goes on behind the scenes.

Melissa Legate, first year student council sponsor, was on the winter royalty committee for the first time this year.

“The students have all the planning to do. I'm really just here in the background for support if they need it,” she says.

Students have to book a DJ, decide on the theme for the dance, and set up and clean the decorations. Smaller decisions like what snacks and drinks will be available to grab, yard games to set up, and posters to promote the dance throughout the week also have to be made. This year was the first time winter royalty had been at the high school, a new change.

“The high school should be a fun environment that has air conditioning. There is more room for games, and students will not have to wait outside in the cold this year,” Legate says. “The only challenge would be the supervision, but since they brought the curtain down this year, it shouldn't be much of a worry.”

“I feel like it was worth putting all the planning into the dance, but we should consider getting rid of it in the future since no one really stays,” Lauren Delka, a junior in the winter royalty committee, says.
