Seniors Take on County Government Day
By Grace Retzlaff
County Government Day is a day where seniors get the opportunity to tour the Pierce County courthouse and learn more about the government in their town and county.
County Government Day gives a deeper look into our government so that seniors can see firsthand how everything works.
Seniors got a tour of the courthouse and a personal tour of all the offices within the courthouse.
“My favorite part of the day was touring the jail; it really solidified the fact that I would never want to be there,” Mikenzie Lawrence, a senior, stated.
The sheriff, Rick Eberhardt, gave the seniors a tour of the inside of the jail cells, explained his job, and shared a few stories he has had throughout his years of being the sheriff.
“My favorite part of the day was being able to see inside the jail cells and what they look like. I also enjoyed the opportunity of being able to talk to the recruiters they had there,” Hannah Marten, a senior, stated.
County Government Day also had recruiters from all of the military branches for seniors to have the opportunity to talk to and ask questions.
County Government Day was sponsored by the Legion Posts of Pierce, Osmond, and Plainview.
