Cross Country Runs at State
By Elizabeth Furstenau
The cross country season has officially come to an end. The boys team made their way to Kearney on Friday, October 24, for the state cross country meet.
Through their efforts, the team raced to the finish line, landing them in seventh place.
“In terms of looking back at the season and how things went, both teams followed two different paths: the girls endured several injuries through the first 3/4 of the season and by the time they were able to field a full team there just wasn't enough time to get the proper conditioning needed to be where they needed to end the season how they were hoping,” head coach Gary Shada stated. “The boys came into the season healthy and stayed that way throughout, and that led them to a number of big accomplishments, namely capturing the district crown on our home course.”
Leading the team once again was first-year senior Brenden Bolling in 22nd with a time of 17:09.93. In 33rd place with a time of 17:32.11 was Kendall Shada. Kyle Abler ended in 40th place with a time of 17:41.22. Blaine Anson placed 87th with an 18:46.12 time. With a 19:51.97 time was Carl Vogt in 113th place. Following Vogt in 114th was Maxwell Weber with a time of 202:20.99.
“State wasn’t the best individually,” Bolling claimed. “I went there having goals that I ended up not reaching, but not gonna let that change anything from the season. I’m gonna remember mostly the competitiveness as a team, even at practices, everyone wanted to do their best, and that’s what made us a top seven team in the state. I wouldn’t change anything from the season, though sometimes people have an off day, and sadly, mine was at state.”
The season may be over, but the runners, especially the seniors, will remember it as the good old days. Congratulations, and see you next year, cross country.
