Bluejays Fall Short in 21-19 Battle Against Vikings
By Skyler Stern
The Pierce football team stayed home to play the Lakeview Vikings and ended the night losing just barely 21-19.
In the first quarter, Lakeview scored the first touchdown being a 77-yard pass, also making the PAT (point after touchdown).
Going into the second quarter, the Vikings scored another touchdown and had a successful PAT. The Bluejays had their first touchdown of the night, a short pass to Hayden Bauer, but they did not get the PAT.
“I’m feeling pretty confident going into the playoffs with what we have. We need to clean some things up first,” Bauer said.
Starting the second half of the game, the Vikings scored another touchdown and made the kick to lead 21-6.
In the fourth quarter, the Bluejays held the Vikings to not scoring. Bryce Lindstrom scored a touchdown, and Tate Wales made the PAT. Now the score was 21-13 with the Bluejays still having a chance. Lindstrom had another touchdown for the Bluejays, but unfortunately, they did not score the 2-point conversion to tie the game.
Ryder Theisen led the Bluejays in yards, having 105 all-purpose yards, gaining 57 receiving yards and 48 rushing yards.
Defensively, Cole DeBoer had nine tackles and a sack, while Lindstrom and Jackson Fischer had two tackles. Christian Nordby also had a sack.
“We need to be more disciplined. We have had too many penalties causing us to lose momentum in close games,” Lindstrom stated.
The Bluejays will play the Schuyler Warriors at home on October 24.
