Bluejays Take the Win Over the Shamrocks

By Naomi Sullivan

In what ended up being a 28-13 victory for the Bluejays on Friday, September 26, at Pawnee Park in Columbus, the Bluejays dominated the Shamrocks for the entire first half of the game.

“I thought it was an overall good team win. The team adapted well throughout the week to a different practice schedule. I'm very proud of the boys' effort and execution to get the win,” head coach Darin Suckstorf states. “I thought the defensive game plan worked the best by holding Scotus to 23 total yards in the first half, which helped us jump out to a 21-0 first half lead. I want the team to keep making improvements each week as we continue to develop more depth. This should help us build more confidence and build some momentum as we continue district play.”

Jackson Fisher scored the first touchdown of the night in the first quarter, giving the team a 7–0 lead. Tate Wales added a successful point after attempt.

Fisher continued his hot streak with a second touchdown in the second quarter, with Wales once again converting the PAT, extending the lead to 14-0. Right before halftime, Gavin Lubisher caught a touchdown pass from Brock Collison, and Wales was back to kick the extra point.

Going into halftime with a 21-0 lead, the Shamrocks faced an uphill battle to put points on the board.

Bryce Lindstrom added a long touchdown run at the beginning of the third quarter, pushing the score to 28-0. Pierce dominated early, building a 28-7 advantage by the third quarter and never looking back.

The Shamrocks fought back and scored 13 points by the end of the third quarter, but it was not enough to overcome the Bluejays.

In the end, the Bluejays came out on top against the Shamrocks, adding another win to their record, with the final score being 28-13.

“I think Jackson Fischer really stepped up and made some good plays. He also got the team going at some points,” Bluejay center Cameron Kuehler says. “A good win like that definitely gives us motivation going forward to keep the good season going. After losing to them last year, now coming back with a win gives us a good feeling. Coming out from half time knowing we had the score advantage kept us going too. We just knew we had a statement to send after losing last year, so everyone kept their focus. I think we adjusted to their defense very well.”

The Bluejays are at home on Friday, October 3, hosting O’Neill. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
