Battling again in the second set, the Jays dominated the set with a score of 25-14.

”I thought the game last night went really well. We handled our business and made it a quick game,” junior Nora Herian stated. “It was definitely a confidence booster going into our games next week.”

Entering the third set with great energy, the Bluejays took the set 25-16, and took home the victory against the Eagles.

Throughout the night, Herian had 18 kills. Senior Abigail Cone had 10 kills, and Lydia Cone had five kills.

I thought we played a great match,” head coach Zach Weber comments. “Offensively we were pretty clean and our receive was fantastic. There are areas still to improve, but I’m proud of our efforts.”

The Pierce Bluejays will be back in action on September 30, at Laurel-Concord-Coleridge.

Pierce Defeats Cedar Catholic
By Brynn Schwartz

Entering Cedar Catholic, the Pierce High volleyball team came out strong, taking home a win, 3-1 on Tuesday, September 23.

Pierce took the first set 25-18.

“Tuesday, we could've played cleaner. The best part about our game was the serve receive, and I think our offense could've played better; it was an off game since we played them twice. The unexpected appeared; there is some work to do,” middle hitter Naomi Sullivan. “Overall, I thought it was a good game, but there is some to improve on.”

In the second game, Cedar Catholic tied it up with the score ending 25-23.

Pierce took over and killed the Trojans with the third set ending 25-16, and the fourth and final set 25-20, leading to the victory.

Nora Herian led the team with 24 kills, followed by Abigail Cone, who had 14. Lydia Cone added seven, Adrienne Riggert gave three, Joise Painter had two, Kendyl Olson and Emily Endorf contributed one each.

L. Cone added three points with ace serves, while Herian and Haley Scholting added two each. Painter and Riggert each had one.

Painter and Herian had 12 digs each. Scholting came up with eight, Endorf dug out seven. Also having digs for the team were L. Cone with six, A. Cone and Riggert added four each, and Olson had one.

“I'm obviously happy that we got the win,” head coach Zach Weber said. “We know there are things we could have done. We certainly could have served better, but overall it was a good effort, quite hard, and we came away with the conference win on the road. That's always a good thing.”
