Golf Triangular Leads to Sweet Victory for the Bluejays

The Pierce High School girls golf team secured a victory on Monday, September 8, at a triangular on the Pierce Community golf course. Not only did the Bluejays come out on top, shooting a 200, but Rylee Altwine also placed first overall, shooting a 39.
The girls each shot nine holes with the opposing teams: Hardington Cedar Catholic High School, who shot a 130; and Norfolk Catholic High School, who shot a 228.
Even though the Bluejays had the advantage of playing on their home course, Addison Frye, a junior and third-year golfer at Pierce High School, said the day still had its challenges, especially after a full day of school.
“The biggest challenge was for sure trying to stay positive because it was a pretty long day at school,” Frye said. “When I was kind of tired, I mentally prepared by talking to Brailey.”
Frye also shared that while competing in front of spectators might make her nervous, it ultimately helps her improve.
“I feel a little bit of pressure in front of crowds and media, but I feel like in the long run, it makes me better,” Frye says.
The triangular was a 9-hole round, allowing for a faster-paced competition.
Noticing an improvement in her game, Frye wanted to thank her coaches for their help in her growth in golfing.
“My game has evolved in a pretty upward state, you know, I feel like I’ve been golfing better and better as the season has been going on,” she states. “My coaches have been helping me the most this year. They’re very supportive, and I appreciate them so much for helping me with everything these past three years.”
With this win, the Bluejays continue to swing into the next competition of the season. Their next meet will be on September 18 at the triangular hosted by Wayne.
