Homecoming is Here
By Naomi Sullivan
Homecoming is right around the corner, and Bluejay Nation is ready to bring the spirit! The homecoming football game is set for Friday, September 12, when Pierce will take on Douglas County West, followed by the homecoming dance on Saturday, September 13. This year's theme for homecoming is Candyland.
The girls letter club has been working hard behind the scenes, planning decorations, activities, and, of course, spirit week themes. This year’s dress-up days are:
- Monday – wear your comfiest PJs for pajama day
- Tuesday – support the red, white, and blue for the USA
- Wednesday – cotton candy - girls wear pink, boys wear blue
- Thursday – lean into your cowboy style with western
- Friday – dress to impress with your best Bluejay gear for spirit day
On Friday, students involved in fall activities will head to Pierce Elementary School to visit with the elementary kids, keeping alive a tradition that even the senior class now still remembers being part of when they were little.
A parade will then continue through town, with all the teams and clubs showing off their school spirit on floats, trailers, and whatever else they can roll in.
Also, during Homecoming week, the cheerleaders will be hosting a costume contest elaborating on the school's Homecoming week themes. Each day, the businesses in the town will have to dress up, if desired, following the theme. The cheerleaders will be evaluating each business, and whoever dresses the best will earn bragging rights and free admission to the homecoming game.
It’s shaping up to be a great week
“The theme was selected by a unanimous vote. It was one of two options, and it was the top pick. Trying to pick decorations that have the same colors is the most challenging. Homecoming is not just for the current students at PHS. It is meant to be a week of remembrance of the alumni. The name signifies them "coming home" to the place they began. I think the theme is good. We are using lots of different colors, and it should hopefully be more extravagant than in past years,” Elizabeth Furstenau, cheerleader and girls letter club member, said.
The students, as well as the faculty, all work together in order to make the week fun and the activities even better. It is important to remember those who made the school and community what it is today.
Enjoy all the homecoming festivities at Pierce High.
