Bluejay Runners Take on the Boone Central Meet

By Kendall Shada

The Pierce High cross country team went to Albion to compete in the Boone Central Invite on Friday, September 6, and came home with individual hardware.

On the girls side, two Bluejay girl runners competed. Isabelle Kuehler finished 70th, crossing the finish line in 27:13.40. Coming in behind her was Lainey Jensen, who crossed the finish line in 28:14.10 and finished 77th.

“We only had two runners that were healthy enough to run, and they performed well. I'm just anxious to see where our team's capable of full volume of runners,” head coach Gary Shada states.

On the boys side of things, the Bluejay boys finished third as a team. Brenden Bolling took home the gold, running 17:02.22. Coming in behind him for Pierce was Kyle Abler, who ran 18:33.68, finishing in 15th. Kendall Shada came after those two, running 18:38.68, coming in 16th. The top 20 runners earned a medal. Blaine Anson ran a 19:26.61, crossing the finish line in 26th. Carl Vogt ran 21:14.74, placing 59th. Max Weber finished in 78th running a 22:22.90.

“Well, as a team, we know that we are better than what our results showed,” Shada also said. “To be able to go to a meet and get third and know that you as an overall group were far from your best just proves that when we do start putting our best efforts forward, that we’re going to be a team that's going to be capable of accomplishing a lot.”

The Pierce team will be competing on Friday, September 12, in Norfolk at the Norfolk Catholic Invite, which will be held at Skyview Lake. Race time is at 9 a.m.
