Marching into the Season
By Grace Retzlaff
Broadway is coming to Pierce this marching band season. Band director Michael Sindt and the Pierce High march band are putting on a broadway show this year featuring the songs, “Dancing Queen,” “Dream to Dream,” and “Defying Gravity.”
The band will be performing their first competition October 1 at the Pierce Marching Festival. As for competitions away from home, they will be starting their season off with marching the bridge and streets of Yankton. The following week, the band will be performing in the dome at the University of South Dakota. To end the season, the Bluejay band will perform at a state competition, which will be held at Kearney.
“I think it (the season) is going very well so far,” Sindt says. “The students all have very good work ethic and good attitudes.”
The season appears to be off to a good start and should hopefully be one of the best. But what sets this season apart from the others? Sindt stated that many different changes have been made this year such as they hired someone to write the drills for them, they’ve included some dancing - with help from the dance team - into their routine, and a new change in leaders. Overall, he feels this should be an amazing season for the band.
