Alumni Join the Jazz Band for One Last Concerto

The final jazz band concert of the year was a memorable one, as special guests joined the band for a final performance.

The jazz band, consisting of seniors Amelia Ahlers, Kaylee Steffen, Aubrey Hanson, Hadleigh Collison, Trayton Christiansen; juniors Mya Johnson, Jared Northcutt, Josiah Ahlers, Christian Nordby; sophomores Spencer Sindt, Aubrie Zimmerman, Lauren Delka, Brayden Lambrecht, Payton Ebmeier, Maya Johnson, and Keaton Vavra were joined by community members Karl Schultz and Randee Falter and alumni Travis Emory, Jackson Zimmerman, and Kodi Kuether. The jazz band performed on May 12.

“It was a blast coming back to play with the jazz band, and jazz band was one of my favorite parts of high school. It was fun to get to play with them one more time,” Emory, an alumnus drummer, said.

The songs performed were: “Backatown” by Troy Andrews, “Tank” by Yoko Kanno,”Indiana” by Dave Barduhn, “Crystal Cove” by Patty Darling, “Watermelon Man” by Herbie Hancock, “Rocky Top” by Bob Lowden, “Don’t Know Why” by Norah Jones, “In The Mood” by Joe Garland, “Cold Duck Time” by Eddie Harris, “Killer on the Keys” by Larry Neeck, “Come Sunday” by Duke Ellington, “I Got You” by James Brown, “Don’t Get Sassy” by Thad Jones, and “Forget You” by Paul Murtha.

“I really enjoyed the jazz band concert! It was fun to play the songs, but my favorite was ‘Forget You.’ It was a great experience, and I was happy to see some alumni come back and play with us,” A. Zimmerman, a sophomore saxophone player, said.
