JH/SR Spring Concert

By Brianna Rundell

Pierce junior and senior high choir students had their final concert of the year on Monday, May 5.

The junior high started things off with a song called “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” arranged by Mac Huff. The next song was “The Auctioneer,” a fast-paced song to get people moving. The third song for the junior high was “Belong Together,” arranged by Andy Beck. To finish off their portion of the concert, the last song they performed was “Party in the U.S.A.” arranged by Greg Gilpin.

“The junior high had some fun songs but they worry about what the audience thinks so they hold back. They have the capability to be very good if they work at it. The high school performance was very good. They are a small group but they are powerful. It's always a bittersweet moment at this concert because it's the seniors' last year. Finding an accompanist will be challenging because kids just don't take lessons very long anymore. Celine has been wonderful to work with and she is going to be missed a lot,” director Amy Barnhill said.

In the senior high portion of the concert, they started with a song from the movie “The Princess and the Frog,” called “Dig a Little Deeper.” Next, they performed “May It Be (The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring)” Both songs were arranged by Mark Brymer.

Before the final song, the senior high choir was presented with letter awards along with a recognition for seniors and their parents. To conclude the night, they sang “Dance!” This song included body percussion at the end, something different than concerts before.

“It’s actually really sad, I am the first person that Mrs. Barnhill has had all the way through high school, and it’s kind of sad, I’ve had a lot of experiences with her through All State with her and even just the choir in general, so leaving is kind of sad, and I know that I’m moving on to bigger things and a bigger choir, but it’s really sad to be done,” senior Hadleigh Collison said.
