Freshmen Split with Norfolk

By Parker Gaes

Pierce freshmen and sophomore basketball teams went head-to-head with Norfolk Public Panthers on Monday, January 13, and the Pierce boys lost to Norfolk 53-26, while the girls won 54-8.

Starting off in the first quarter of the boys game, Norfolk scored 10 points and Pierce scored four.

Norfork scored 19 in the second quarter, and Pierce followed with six, making the score at the end of the first half 29-10 in favor of the Panthers.

In the third quarter, Norfolk added 15 more points and Pierce trailed behind them, but added 10 points, narrowing the lead for Norfolk to 44-20.

Then in the final quarter, the Bluejays made the Panthers slow down and they only scored nine, and Pierce scored six, making the final score 53-26.

Aiden Frazier hyped up the crowd with a deep three in the beginning of the third quarter to start it all off.

“I knew I was going to make the three when he shot it,” Frazier says.

Parker Gaes was the high scorer of the game for Pierce with six points.

“The freshmen are continuing to improve with every single game. Their effort is always there, just need to continue to work on handling pressure with the basketball,” coach Kaleb Anderson said. He also thought that the work ethic was there, and he never doubts the work of the team on the court.

For the freshmen girls basketball team, they had a different approach to the game and they came out strong outscoring Norfolk by 15 points with a score of 17-2 in the first quarter,

The second quarter the Bluejays scored 20 more points, and kept the Panthers to only four points.

In the third quarter, the Jays stomped the Panthers by scoring 15 while holding Norfolk scoreless.

Then in the fourth quarter the Jays slowed down a little bit and only scored two points and the Panthers scored two as well.

The top scorer for the Bluejays was Natalie Endorf with 15 total points, and Darcy Watts with a close up with four, 3-pointers.

“I think my team beat Norfolk by 46, because our team talks and communicates very well with each other and our defense dominates as well as our offense. That's why we won by a crazy amount of points,” Endorf said.

The freshman teams play on Monday, January 27, in Pierce's home court versus Norfolk Catholic starting at 6 p.m.
