Pierce County Government Day

By Brayden Suckstorf

County government day is a fun way for seniors to learn something interesting about the role of the county government and how they can help participate in it.

This year the event will take place on November 14 and is planned by the local American Legion branch.

During county government day the seniors are given tours of the courthouse and all of its various offices. During the day, members of the county government like the sheriff, county attorney, treasurer, election commissioner, director of the UNL extension office, and more give presentations to the students on their roles in government. “This day is an important event because it gives these students a chance to see how big of a role local government plays in their life. In an election year, when most people are focused on the presidential race, it is important to know how many things are done at the local level,” teacher Brock Bretschneider stated.

“I am excited about seeing the way how the Pierce government works and seeing all of the important buildings. I also am excited to just enjoy the experience with my classmates,” senior Chase Rasmussen said.
