Bluejay Football Wins First Game

By Skyler Stern

On Friday, August 30, Pierce went to Aurora to play the Huskies and came away with a 41-28 victory.

Aurora scored two touchdowns in the first quarter and only made one kick.

Pierce’s Kaiden Fritz scored the first touchdown for the Bluejays with a good point after touchdown (PAT) kick from Turner Wolfe making the score 13-7 after the first quarter.

Coming into the second quarter the Bluejays shut down the Huskies giving them no points and scoring two touchdowns, both scored by Fritz, and the extra points were good from Wolfe.

The Huskies scored one touchdown in the third quarter and completed a 2-point conversion to make the score tied up at 21.

In the fourth quarter, Brock Collison had a nice run for a touchdown with a good PAT from Wolfe. The Huskies bounced back and scored, also making the extra point. Collison scored another touchdown and the Bluejays went for the 2-point conversion but failed to get it. Pierce added one more touchdown by Keaton Frazier with a good extra point to make the final score 41-28. “We need to improve on our tackling and continue to develop depth as well as not waste our plays on offense,” coach Darin Suckstorf states. “I was very pleased with how we came together and fought as a team to win.”

The offensive leaders included Fritz with 142 rushing yards, Collison with 53 rushing yards and 153 passing yards, and Wolfe with 66 rushing yards.

The defensive leaders were Hayden Bauer with five tackles, Fritz and Bryce Lindstrom with four tackles each.

The Bluejays will play their next game at home against Logan View/Scribner-Snyder on Friday, Sept. 6.
