The Repair to the Main Street Dip

By Alanna McKeown

Have you ever gotten your bumper ripped off or scraped because of a dip in the road? Well if you live in Pierce, chances are you probably have, especially if you drive too fast through the dips in the road.

On main street in Pierce there was a huge dip in the road due to weather and high amounts of traffic. The town decided to fix the intersection of 5th and Main Streets to eliminate the enormous dip. The city of Pierce has received numerous requests over the past few years to replace this intersection.

Pierce’s city administrator, Chad Anderson states, “Depending on the weather, it will probably be another 2-3 weeks before the road is done. The money for the street is coming out of the street fund. The construction company working on the road is Wragge Construction out of Plainview.”

Some civilians living around the area have mixed feelings about the construction on the road.

The Curlee family states, “Some of the benefits are that they're putting in a storm drain which is gonna help the water that's running in the road drain so it doesn't flood in this part of the town. Another benefit of the construction is getting rid of the brick because the brick had lots of cracks, depths, and bumps. Now they're going to put in a new road base and all that is going to pretty much help water flow, traffic, and so people don't have to take their cars sideways just to get through it. Some of the disadvantages are that they have to close down the road, there's a lot of noise, and it makes it difficult for us to get our mail.”

The next upcoming project that people should look out for in Pierce is the replacing of concrete in the front of the fire station this summer and the replacing of the old bridge at Gilman with two culverts in August or September. The city will be doing the work themselves.

Watch out for the construction around Pierce.
