K-6 Choir Concert
By Brianna Rundell
Although audience members had to wait an extra week, Pierce Elementary held its spring K-6 choir concert on Friday, May 3, and the concert had no weather related upsets.
Kindergarten started things off with “I Just Love a Dancing Bear” and “It’s Been a Good Year.” The next group who came in were the first graders with their songs titled “If You’re Happy Summer’s Comin’” and “Here We Go Looby Loo/Here We Go Again.”
Second graders sang “Old Dan Tucker’s Barn Dance” and “Ready To Go.”
Barnhill comments, “The K-6 concert went extremely well. It was not easy sharing the night with the JH/SH but I appreciate the flexibility. They were entertaining and they sang their hearts out. I try to put a variety in the concert so people leave wanting more. I had a gentleman come up to me and said he wanted to dance during Old Time Rock and Roll. It was a fun night.”
Third grade roared their way in starting, with “Circle of Life,” which included a raised Simba doll, and “Old Time Rock and Roll.”
The fourth grade had a recorder feature for their first song titled “Frodo’s Bag” followed by “We Are the World.”
Fifth grade’s selections were “Yakety Yak” and “The Silly Sixties.”
To wrap things up, the sixth graders sang “We Will Rock You,” a medley from Queen. For their last song, instead of singing, they danced their boots off to “Footloose” with choir director Amy Barnhill joining in.
“When they danced to that (Footloose), the sixth graders did a really good job,” sixth grade teacher Chris Peters remarks. It is “always fun to watch what the little kids get to do; I look forward to it every year.”
