By Claudia Riggert

On April 11, the boys golf team competed in Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and placed fifth.

Travis Emory led the golf team with an 88 and a seventh place finish. Following Emory, Cooper Wachholtz scored a 95. Champion White and Tyler Schulz both finished with a 99, and Camden Jansen finished with a 103.

“The team has been improving steadily from day one,” Emory, low scorer for the team. “We haven’t played to our potential, but we are trending in the right direction.”

The Bluejays finished fifth place with a 381. Tekamah-Herman received the first place finish of the meet scoring a 347.

It was a tough start for us. We have a lot of new faces on varsity,” head coach Zach Weber comments. “Nerves and horrible playing conditions got to us. We’ll learn from it and continue to get better. This was just a stepping stone for us to get to where we want to be.”

The Bluejays will next compete at the Lutheran High Northeast Invite on Thursday, April 18.

Pierce Opens Strong at Golf Quad
By Brianna Rundell

The Pierce boys golf team competed and won against Plainview, Elkhorn Valley and Neligh in a golf quadrangular held at the Pierce golf course on April 4.

“I feel good about the season. We did graduate a lot of quality players from last year, but we have a large roster and a lot of enthusiasm for the sport. We will get better as the season progresses and our new faces settle in a little bit,” head coach Zach Weber commented.

Wind speed around 30-40 mph made scoring difficult, but overall the team did well.

In first place Cooper Wachholtz shot a 38. In second place was Travis Emory with a 44.

Wachholtz, a junior, said “I feel like we are all ready and excited to have a good season. If we all put in the work we will have a shot at state, I took advantage of the good weather and put up a decent score to help the team.”

Good luck to our golf team throughout this season.

Kreighton Simpson shot 100.

Simpson states, “I think we played out hardest and did as good as we could. I know most of the boys, including myself, wish we could have done a little better, but it is early in the season. Moving forward we will try to improve and work hard.”
