Girls Track Jumps into the New Season
By Addisyn Ludden
The girls at Pierce High have started off their 2024 track season with practices starting to take place at the end of February.
Head coach Mr. Les Painter says, “I am looking forward to watching us get better every week. The girls do not have very many weaknesses, and if we do it would be our sprints. We have a really good group of young girls and especially the freshman coming up.” He also says, “We have a lot of good throwers, distance runners, and hurdlers. Josie Painter and Haley Scholting are good for the mile and two mile. Skylar is a very good returning hurdler and Abigail Cone and Hadleigh Collison are very good mid distance runners.”
Coaches this year include head coach Painter and assistants Mr. Gary Shada, Mr. Alex Thramer, Mrs. Stephanie Cone, Mr. Kyle Simmons, and Mr. Kaleb Anderson.
Additional track coaches include Mr. Brett Suckstorf, Mr. James Dvorak, Mr. Brandon Franklin, Mr. Eric Pfeiffer, Mr. Tim Waldner, and Mr. Paul McCawley.
Returning letterwinners for this year include senior Maggie Painter, juniors Collison, Zoey Ebmeier, Shaylee Gardner, Natallie Kosch, Claudia Riggert, Skylar Scholting, Alexis Sporleder, and Chelsea Wragge.
Sophomore returning letterwinners are Cone, Kylie Dvorak, Emily Endorf, Isabelle Kuehler, Samantha Painter, and Naomi Sullivan.
Riggert says, “I am super excited to get track and competing starting and all of the memories that come with it.”
Pierce has a total of 38 girls out for the track team and this year’s team motto is “Well Done is Greater Than Well Said.”
