Boys Wrestling Gets Fifth at ClarksonÂ

The Pierce boys wrestling team made their way to Clarkson-Leigh on February 2, and finished fifth out of 18 teams.
Earning a first place medal for the Bluejays was Brenden Bolling (150), who scored the team 24.5 points.
Kaiden Fritz (175) placed second and scored the team 18 points.
Claiming third place medals were Cole DeBoer (138), Peyton Kruntorad (157), and Boston Krueger (285). DeBoer ended up scoring 14 team points, Kruntorad scored 16 team points and Krueger ended up scoring 12 team points.
Accepting fourth place medals were Corbin Pfeil (120) and Christian Nordby (215) who scored 13 team points each.
Head coach Tyler Legate comments, “The boys wrestled hard, and we are starting to see improvements every match.”
Abler, who wrestled at 113, fell in his first match to Jack Glendy from Columbus Lakeview and in his second match Abler fell to Vincent Vandenberg from East Butler.
Pfeil won his first match by pinning Gage Herrington of North Central in 29 seconds. In Pfeil’s second match, he won by a decision, 6-2, against Nate Sanderson of Pender. In the third match, Pfeil lost to Isaac Woita of Bishop Neumann by fall. In the consolation semifinals match, Pfeil pinned Isaac Meyer of Newman Grove. In the third place match, Pfeil lost to Joseph Barnell of Creighton by a 7-3 decision.
Wrestling at 126, Draydin Gossman received a bye in his first round. In the quarterfinals, Gossman lost by an 11-5 decision to Jakson McFarland of Columbus Lakeview. In round 2 he won by pinning Jaxon Mueller of Archbishop Bergan. In his third and fourth rounds, Gossman won by pinning Jaxon Cozad of North Central. Gossman lost by an 11-10 decision to Gavin Wiig of Kingsley-Pierson in the semifinals.
DeBoer won his quarterfinal match by pinning Mason Vogel of Millard North. In DeBoer’s semifinal match, he lost by decision against Trevor Steffen of Guardian Angels Central Catholic, 10-3. In the consolation semifinals, DeBoer pinned Thomas White of Millard North. In the third place match, DeBoer won by a 7-0 decision over Sawyer Pruss of Archbishop Bergan.
Bryce Lindstrom, at 144, won his first round by pinning Owen Larsen of Pender. In the quarterfinal match, Lindstrom fell against Gavin Prewitt of North Central. In the consolation round two, Lindstrom pinned Daniel Castillo of Millard North. In the third round, Lindstrom fell to Landon Burt of Tekamah-Herman.
Wrestling at 150, Chase Rasmussen won his first round by an 8-6 decision over Sebastian Lautenschlager of Bishop Neumann. In the quarterfinal match, Rasmussen lost in sudden victory-1, 4-2, to Kaleb Gardner of Osmond. In consolation round two Rasmussen lost by fall to Elijah Nunamaker of Millard North.
Bolling won his first match by pinning Atwood Albrecht of North Central. In the quarterfinal match, Bolling won by a 17-2 tech fall against Max Bruce of Crofton-Bloomfield. In the semifinals, Bolling won by a 17-4 major decision over Kaleb Gardner of Osmond. In the first place match, Bolling won by decision, 8-3, against Eli Pilakowski of Columbus Lakeview.
Kruntorad won his first round by pinning Timmy Garrish of Bishop Newmann. In the quarterfinals match Kruntorad won by decision, 2-0, against Jorgan Condon of Creighton. Kruntorad then fell to Boyd Frazey of Pender in the semifinals. Then Kruntorad came back to win his last two matches, pinning Trey Tramp of Crofton-Bloomfield winning an 8-7 decision over Quin Schutt of Bishop Neumann.
Kyle Kuehler, who wrestled at 157, lost his first round by fall to Condon of Creighton. In consolation round one, Kuehler won by pinning Timmy Gerrish of Bishop Neumann. In Kuehler’s final round he fell in an 8-4 decision to Trey Tramp from Crofton-Bloomfield.
At 165, Kaiden Ronnfeldt lost his first round by fall against Wyatt Tramp of Crofton-Bloomfield. In his second round, Ronnfeldt lost by fall to Austin Ruhter from Millard North.
Also wrestling at 165 for Pierce was Jackson Fischer who had a bye his first round. In his quarterfinals match Fischer lost by fall to W. Tramp of Crofton-Bloomfield. Fischer then won a 4-0 decision over Micah Hardy of Bishop Neumann. In consolation round three, Fisher fell to Evan Schuetze of Guardian Angel Central Catholic.
Another wrestler at 165, Brody Coulter, lost his first round by fall to Daniel McManigal of Columbus Lakeview. In consolation round one, Coulter pinned Chase Gewecke of North Central. In his second round, Coulter fell to Rocco Hageman of East Butler.
Fritz’s first round was a bye, but in the quarterfinals he pinned Adin Verschoor of Kingsley-Pierson. In the semifinal match, Fritz won by a 9-3 decision over Brock Jeannoutot of Crofton-Bloomfield. In the first place match, Fritz lost a 3-2 decision to Jordan Timmerman of Guardian Angels Central Catholic.
Also at 175 was Anthony Castillo who won his first round by pinning Wyat Lanfhorst of Clarkson-Leigh in 27 seconds. In the quarterfinals match, Castillo fell to Spencer Pagels of Tekamah-Herman. During the consolation round two, Castillo pinned Jonathan Jackson of Millard North. In Castillo’s third round, he lost in sudden victory-1, 9-7, to Owen Kaufman from Newman Grove.
Wrestling at 190, Camden Jansen lost his first round by a 5-2 decision to Luke Hagedorn of Guardian Angels Central Catholic. In consolation round one, Jansen fell to Hayden Meisenbach of Tekamah-Herman.
Clayton Carlson, who also wrestled at 190, won his first round by pinning Ty Nielsen of Crofton-Bloomfield in 23 seconds. Carlson then fell to Gabe Stock of Tekamah-Herman in the quarterfinals. During consolation rounds two and three, Carlson pinned Meisenbach of Tekamah-Herman and Anthony Steffen of Crofton-Bloomfield. In the consolation semifinal match, Carlson lost to Tyson Sanger of Crofton-Bloomfield by fall.
Nordby won his first match by decision, 1-0, against Sebastian De La Cruz of Columbus Lakeview. In the quarterfinal match, Nordby won by medical forfeit against Patrick McIntyre of Archbishop Bergan. During the semifinal match, Nordby lost by fall to Casey Jeannoutot of Crofton-Bloomfield. Nordby pinned Kaddo Schrunk of Pender in the consolation semifinals. In the third place match, Nordby lost by a 6-2 decision to Levi Gall of Clarkson-Leigh.
Also wrestling at 215, Xavier Miller lost his first match by fall to Gall of Clarkson-Leigh. In Miller’s first consolation round, he received a bye. In consolation round two, Miller lost by fall to Isaac Fanta of Creighton.
Krueger earned a bye in his first round, but lost by fall against Clay Hedges of Archbishop Bergan in his quarterfinal match. In consolation round two, Krueger won by decision, 9-3, against Connor Sullivan of Archbishop Bergan. During Krueger’s third round match, he pinned Kip Leonard of North Central. In the consolation semifinals match, Krueger won by a 9-5 decision against Cole Booth of Tekamah-Herman. For the third place match, Krueger won by ultimate tiebreaker, 4-2, against Zeb Wilde of Sandhills/Thedford.
“We will be working on situational wrestling this week leading up to districts,” comments Legate. He also states, “Our crowd always does a good job supporting the boys.”
