Pierce to Crown Winter Royalty

All of the candidates will fill up the auditorium on Saturday, January 6, to crown the queen and king of winter royalty. 

The first girl candidate, Hayle DeBoer, is the daughter of Ryan and Lindy DeBoer. Hayle has been in the girls letter club for three years, band for two years, wrestling for three years, and softball for four years. Hayle was on the academic team for one year, she earned academic letters for three years, and was named to the All-Conference softball team her senior and junior years. 

The first king candidate is Korvin Fritz, who is the son of Scott and Jennifer Fritz. Korvin has participated in FFA for five years and boys letter club for four years. He has participated in band and track for two years, and football for four years. He has received academic letter for four years, All-District in football for two years, All-State in football for one year, and principal’s honor roll for four years. Korvin received an academic All-State award in football one year. Korvin is a member of Northern Heights Baptist Church and volunteers on the Pierce fair board.

The next candidate, Madelyn Hanson, is the daughter of Lesley and Travis Hanson. She has been in the National Honor Society and FCCLA for two years. She has been in student council, girls letter club, and FCA for four years. Madelyn is currently the president of the student council and she is the vice president of the girls letter and National Honor Society, and is the secretary of her senior class. She has been in band for two years, quiz bowl for three years, robotics for one year, basketball for three years, track for one year, softball for four years, and cheer for three years and has been the cheer captain for two years. Madelyn received four academic letters. She got the principal's honor roll all four years of her high school career. Madelyn received all conference softball for two years. She got an honorable mention for two years . Madelyn was awarded academic All-State softball for two years. 

Madelyn is escorted by Brayden Kuper. Brayden is the son of Jennifer Fanning and Robb Kuper. He has participated in FFA for three years and boys letter club for one year. Kuper was the class president his sophomore year, treasurer his junior year, and vice president his senior year. Kuper played football for one year and participated in quiz bowl for three years for school activities. Kuper has been on the scholastic team for four years. For awards, he has received an academic letter and principal’s honor roll for four years in a row, and peer tutor for one year. Kuper is a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Maggie Painter is the daughter of Les and Sharon Painter. Maggie has been in student council, FCA, and girls letter club for four years. She was in the National Honor Society for three years, and FCCLA for one year. She is currently the president of the National Honor Society and the vice president of the student council. She was the treasurer of the student council her last year. Maggie was in band and journalism for a year. She was in wrestling, volleyball, and track for four years. Maggie has gotten the principal's honor roll, volleyball letters, wrestling letters, and academic letters all four years of her high school career. She has earned All-Conference honorable mention for volleyball, and she also got an academic All-State award for volleyball and for wrestling. She was a district wrestling champion and medaled sixth at state. She was a part of the Norfolk Daily News elite eight first team in volleyball. Maggie got track and field letters three times. Maggie also  participated in the Northeast Community College academic contest.

Maggie’s escort is Nils Røstad, who is the son of Marius and Cecilie Røstad and host parent Brian and Janneil Knox. Røstad has participated in FFA for one year and boys letter club for one year. He participates in band, drama, golf, journalism, football, and speech while here at Pierce High School. In Norway, Nils also participated in Sprint-Jeløy soccer for 11 years. Røstad will return to Norway after school is out in May and complete a senior year of high school there.

Røstad says, “It's fun being part of the winter royalty court, it’s an honor being nominated by the school for winter royalty king candidate, and I am looking forward to the dance and coronation.”

The fourth girl candidate is Icis Sackville, the daughter of Matt and Cami Sackville. Icis has participated in four years of FFA, one year of choir, three years of wrestling, and three years on the dance team. Icis has made the honor roll for three years and has gotten an academic letter for two years. Icis has participated in Girl Scouts for two years. 

Sackville states, “I was super surprised to find out that I was a candidate.”

Our next candidate is Deon Watts, the son of Darin and Dana Watts. Watts has participated in boys letter club for four years and FCA for two years. He participated in many sports such as basketball and football for four years, and track for one year. Watts has received the principal's honor roll for three years, All-Conference honorable mention in basketball for two years and All-District basketball for one year. Deon is a member of  Zion Lutheran Church.

Finally, we have Peyton Wieting, the daughter of Perry and Jill Wieting. She has been in FFA and girls letter club for one year, National Honor Society and student council for two years, and FCA for four years. She was the president of her junior class and was the treasurer of her sophomore class. Peyton has been in band for four years, robotics for a year, she was drum 

major for the past two years, golf for two years, and track for two years. She earned two academic letters. She was a peer tutor for a year. She also got the principal's honor roll three times. She got academic All-State in golf one time. She is a part of the Christ Lutheran Evangelical Church. Peyton has participated in Girl Scouts and Hands for Christ. 

Her escort, Champion White is the son of Andy and Tami White. He has participated in boys letter club for four years and FCA for two years. He has participated in basketball and football for four years, and track for three years. He has been on the honor roll for three years, All-District in football for one year, and All-State honorable mention in football for one year. White is also a member of Zion Lutheran Church.

Student council sponsor Dylan Cerny comments, “I think it should go as smoothly as it has before, and I think everything should go according to plan and everything should be alright.”
