Boys Wrestling Take on North Bend

The boys wrestling made their way to North Bend on December 9 and finished fifth overall out of 18 teams. 

Earning first place medals was Brenden Bolling (144) who scored the team 26.5 points. Earning fourth place medals for the Bluejays were Zakary Abler (113) and Draydin Gossman (132). Abler earned the team nine points while Draydin Gossman scored the team 15 points. 

Abler, who wrestled at 113, started his day winning in a 9-4 decision over Dylan Palmer of Logan View, then fell to Symon Kastl of Aquinas Catholic. In the consolation semifinals, Abler pinned Trevin Huskey from Johnson County Central. Finally, in the third place match, Abler lost by decision to Jake Flesner, 13-9.

Tate Wales, who wrestled at 120, started his day by falling to Landon Carlson of Winside. Wales pinned Griffin Acherman of Tekamah-Herman. Aiden Wedekind of Louisville won by fall over Wales in his second consolation round. 

Corbin Pfeil, who also wrestled at 120, started his day with a 7-4 win by decision over Landen Cauthon of Twin River. Landon Miller of Tekamah- Herman 6-3 won by decision over Pfeil. In consolation round 2, Pfeil won by a 3-2 decision over Maxwell Goracke of Johnson County Central. Aiden Wedekind of Louisville won by decision, 5-2, over Pfeil in consolation round 3.. 

Skyler Stern (126) started his day with a fall to Kayne Olson of Louisville. Stern received a bye in his second round. Logan Topp of Johnson County Central won by fall over Stern in consolation round 2. 

Gossman, who wrestled 132, started his day with a pin of Mason Edwards from Winside followed by a pin over Jacob Spencer from Mount Michael. Luke Farmen of Lincoln Christian won by fall over Gossman in the semifinals. Gossman rallied back to pin Trent Mefford of Aquinas Catholic in the consolation semifinals. Gossman, who finished fourth, ended his day with a loss by fall to Zac Mullally of North Bend Central. 

At 138, Cole DeBoer started his day with a fall to Logan Lindsley of Shelby-Rising City. In his second round DeBoer received a bye, then DeBoer pinned Trever Bohling of Johnson County and won in a 7-3 decision over Graysen Bechwith of Logan View. Finally, Logan Lindsley from Shelby-Rising City won by decision over DeBoer, 3-2. 

Brenden Bolling, who wrestled at 144, started his day with a 21-6 win by tech fall over Alex McDonald of North Bend Central. Then Bolling won in an 18-3 tech fall over Jaedon Welton of Lincoln Christian, a 17-2 tech fall over Cale Behrens of Freeman, and in the first place match pinned Walker Ott of Wisner-Pilger. 

Chase Rasmussen, wrestling at 150, started by pinning Dustin Zakovec of North Bend Central. Owen Meyer of Logan View then won by fall over Rasmussen. The second and third consolation rounds, Rasmussen pinned Ayden Armell of Winnebago and Evan Lauck of Wisner-Pilger. During the consolation semifinals, Gavyn Houston of Tri County won by fall over Rasmussen. 

Hunter Parsons, also at 150, started his day with a loss to Jakob Kavan of Aquinas Catholic 7-0. Parsons received a bye his second round, then fell to Evan Lauck of Wisner-Pilger in the last round. 

Bryce Lindstrom (157) started his day falling to Chance Foust of Logan View. Lindstorm turned it around in his second round, pinning Cameron Werner of Johnson County Central. However, Lindstrom lost by a 10-6 decision to Jett Vrbka of Shelby-Rising City in the last round. 

At 165, Peyton Kruntorad started his day with an 8-6 loss to Ethan Fjell of Shelby-Rising City. Then Kruntorad went on to pin Aves Bossom of Lincoln Christian, Nathan Monahan of Louisville, and Blaize Beller of Mount Michael Benedictine. In the consolation semifinals, Wesley Miller of Aquinas Catholic won by fall over Kruntorad. 

Kaiden Fritz, who wrestled at 190, received a bye in the first round. Fritz then fell to Braydon Wobken of Logan View, but wrestled back and pinned Crew Kaup of Logan View and Tate Johannes of Arlington. In the consolation semifinals, Gabe Stock of Tekamah Herman won by fall over Fritz. 

Camden Jansen, at 190, started his day receiving a bye. Coy Vrbka of Shelby-Rising City won by fall over Jansen, but Jansen then pinned Logan Gubbels from Pierce. In the consolation round three, Brady Junck of Aquinas Catholic 9-4 won by fall over Jansen.

Also at 190, Logan Gubbels started his day falling to Braydon Wobken of Logan View then during the consolation rounds Gubbels received a bye and fell to Jansen of Pierce.

Christian Nordby (215) started his day with pins over Cael Washburn of Tri County and  Tregan Fitzke of Logan View. In the semifinals, Elijah Fjell of Shelby-Rising City won by fall over Nordby. During the consolation semifinals, Washburn won by decision over Nordby. 

Clayton Carlson, also at 215, pinned Drew Jensen of Freeman. Tristan Tobin from Tekamah-Herman won by injury default over Carlson. Washburn of Tri County won by medical forfeit over Carlson. 

Finallys, at 285, Boston Krueger started his day with a bye, then during the quarterfinals  won by an 8-5 decision over Jared Doxey of Winnebago. Collin Vrbka of Shelby-Rising City won by fall over Krueger in the semifinals, while Cole Booth of Tekamah-Herman won by fall over Krueger. 

The wrestlers will be back in action on Thursday and Friday, as they host meets in Pierce both days at the auditorium.
