Changes in Coaching
By Naomi Sullivan
With the basketball season coming up for the Lady Jays, coaching changes are happening for the girls basketball team. New head coach for the Pierce High girls basketball team is Darren Suckstorf, and new assistant coach David Cone is also helping the Lady Jays this season. Suckstorf states his goals for the team this year are “playing the best we can by the end of the year.”
Suckstorf has coached basketball before for Lutheran High, and he was also head coach for the football team. A former basketball player, Suckstorf says his favorite position was a post player.
Grace Suckstorf, a freshman on the basketball team gives her thoughts on her dad coaching, remarking “I think my dad being my coach in basketball will give me more of a challenge.”
Giving his thoughts about coaching his daughter, D. Suckstorf says, “Anytime you coach your kid in a sport it will be challenging, it will be hard on both me and her.”
D. Suckstorf also states that he will “try to push the girls to be patient at all skills and work to get good shots and be patient when the shot is not there.”
Make sure to be there for the first girls varsity basketball game on November 30, at Howells-Dodge.
