Pierce FFA Drove Their Way Through the Course
By Brody Knox
Rolling through the courses, Pierce FFA members competed in the threshing bee tractor driving contest hosted by Pierce FFA alumni, on Saturday, Sept. 16.
The contest included two courses, two tests, parts identification, and a tractor inspection. Other chapters who competed this year included Randolph, Allen, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Hartington-Newcastle, Plainview, Lutheran High Northeast, and Osmond.
The Pierce FFA contestants this year are Seth Nelson, Weston Stemick, Tristan Unseld, Brody Knox, and Clay White. This year Nelson was Pierce’s highest scorer, placing third with a score of 852. Following Nelson were Unseld in 10th place, Stemick in 11th, White in 14th, and Knox in 19th.
Nelson found that the most challenging and least favorite part of the contest was the written book tests while his favorite was being able to back the four wheel wagon into the required spot. With Nelson’s scores proving him right, the driving part of the contest was pretty easy. “Probably the written book questions and the parts identification, I could have looked deeper in answers for [the] written book and look at parts more,” replies Nelson.
Pierce FFA advisor Matthew Neal believes that Nelson performed really well. When asked what the members could have done better as a group Neal replied “as a group, they could slow down.”
The Pierce FFA will be at a land judging contest for the next chapter event.
